What’s going on

The following events are scheduled as part of the Rockland Festival of Lights. All events are in Rockland, unless otherwise noted. For more information, call the Rockland-Thomaston Area Chamber of Commerce at 596-0376.

Friday, Nov. 23

11 a.m.: Santa arrives by U.S. Coast Guard boat at Harbor Park, Public Landing.

11:15 a.m.: Parade down Main Street.

11 a.m.-3 p.m.: Free horse-drawn carriage rides. Pickup location: KeyBank, 331 Main St.

Noon-3 p.m.: Santa’s Workshop open at Island Institute, 386 Main St.

6-8 p.m.: Free horse-drawn carriage rides leaving from Chapman Park.

6:30 p.m.: Third annual tree lighting ceremony at Chapman Park, located near Rite Aid at the corner of Main and Park streets. Festivities will include a visit from Santa, music by the Rockland Children’s Chorus and the Salvation Army Band, and free refreshments.

Extended downtown shopping hours until 7-8 p.m.

Saturday, Nov. 24

Rockland Share the Pride Christmas Lighting Contest begins. Judging until Dec. 13 and announcement of winners on Dec. 15. For information, call Alice Knight at 594-5968.

9 a.m.-4p.m.: Holiday Craft Market at Samoset Resort in Rockport.

11 a.m. – 3 p.m.: Free horse-drawn carriage rides. Pickup location: KeyBank, 331 Main St.

Noon-3 p.m.: Santa’s Workshop open at the Island Institute, 386 Main St.

Friday, Nov. 30

5-8 p.m.: Gallery Night, downtown galleries open late, serving light refreshments.

Extended downtown shopping hours until 7-8 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 1

Noon-3 p.m.: Santa’s Workshop open at Island Institute, 386 Main St.

Sunday, Dec. 2

3 p.m.: Children’s Victorian holiday tea party, Farnsworth Art Museum, 16 Museum St.

Friday, Dec. 7

Extended downtown store shopping hours until 7-8 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 8

11 a.m.-3 p.m.: Free horse-drawn carriage rides, pickup location: KeyBank, 331 Main St.

Noon-3p.m.: Santa’s Workshop open at Island Institute, 386 Main St.

2 p.m.: Rockland Children’s Chorus at Berry Manor Inn, 81 Talbot Ave.

2-4 p.m.: Holiday Open Houses at Berry Manor Inn and Captain Lindsey House Inn, each fully decorated for the holidays, serving refreshments.

Sunday, Dec. 9

2:30 p.m.: Midcoast Symphony Orchestra, Farnsworth Art Museum, 16 Museum St.

Friday, Dec. 14

Extended downtown store shopping hours until 7-8 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 15

11 a.m. -1 p.m.: Down East Singers caroling on Main Street.

11 a.m. -3 p.m.: Free horse-drawn carriage rides, pickup location: KeyBank, 331 Main St.

Noon-3 p.m.: Santa’s Workshop open at Island Institute, 386 Main St.

6-8 p.m.: Parade of Lights, Main Street. Vote for your favorite float by donating canned food to benefit the Salvation Army. To register your own float, call 596-0376.

Monday, Dec. 17-Friday, Dec. 21

Extended downtown store shopping hours until 7-8 p.m.

Saturday, December 22

11-3 p.m.: Free horse-drawn carriage rides, pickup location: KeyBank, 331 Main St.

Noon-3 p.m.: Santa’s Workshop open at Island Institute, 386 Main St.
