Old Town edges Bucksport> Saco rally hands Brewer 13-year-olds first state tourney loss

Old Town topped Bucksport to set up a one-game playoff for the District 3 Little League 11- and 12-year-old championship on Tuesday, while Brewer was denied the state Junior League championship by a Saco rally in Lewiston.

Old Town won 4-2 and will face Bucksport at 13th Street Complex in Bangor on Wednesday.

In Junior League play for 13-year-olds, Saco handed Brewer its first loss with an 11-6 decision. The two teams face each other again today for the state title.

And in Little League Softball’s 9-10 division state tourney, Camden-Rockport was eliminated by Sanford 18-6, while Augusta East lost 17-2 to South Portland.

Old Town 4, Bucksport 2

At Bucksport, Old Town’s Andy Pease five-hit Bucksport to set up a winner-take-all rematch between the two teams on Wednesday for the District 3 crown.

Ryan Brown singled twice for Old Town, and Mike Russell delivered a double. Brad Goody, Mike Boucavalas and Pease each singled.

For Bucksport, Tony Pelletier blasted a triple and a single. Wade Hopkins and Adam Sheehan both hit a double apiece, and Carl Perkins singled.

Junior League

Saco 11, Brewer 6

At Lewiston, Brewer jumped out to a 6-0 lead, but a seven-run sixth inning gave Saco the boost they needed to knock off their previously unbeaten rivals at Elliot Field.

David McKenney doubled and singled for Saco, and Rob Cormier and Greg Duross both hit a pair of singles.

Andy Tremble slapped three singles for Brewer. Warren Chase blasted two triples, knocked in four runs and scored twice. Jason Harvey and Joel Barrett each doubled.

Little League Softball, 9-10

South Portland 17, Augusta East 2

At Waldoboro, Katie DiBiase led South Portland with a two-run homer, leading it to the win over Augusta East. Whitney Morrow doubled.

Laura Nimon slammed an RBI double for Augusta East.

Sanford 18, Camden-Rockport 6

At Waldoboro, Sanford took an early lead with an eight-run first inning and held off Camden-Rockport in tournament action at Foster Memorial Field.

Shawn Dale Burby led Sanford’s early charge with a grand slam. Haley Kimball and Sabrina Sevigny both doubled. Kimball collected four RBIs.
