BANGOR DAILY NEWS (BANGOR, MAINE

Regarding the article about Dr. Donald Robertson, the Machias doctor (BDN, Sept. 6-7): I am so upset; it makes me so mad to see the Drug Enforcement Administration chasing after doctors who prescribe pain medications.

Just who does the DEA think they are, God? How can they attack doctors who are trying to help the suffering? It upsets me that doctors cannot do their business without the government trying to stop them. How can the DEA know about a person’s pain?

I speak from experience because I, too, suffer from back and neck pain. I, too, have been to the so-called pain program at Eastern Maine Medical Center. All that was done was to tell me to “learn to live with the pain.” I left there in tears.

Therefore, I am left with the pain and the fear of asking for pain medications and my doctor fearing to prescribe them.
