Gilbert powers PCHS to victory

GUILFORD – Trey Gilbert scored one goal and assisted on another to lead the Piscataquis Community Pirates to a 3-1 schoolboy soccer victory over the Penquis Patriots Tuesday.

David Emrich and Garret Vainio scored a goal each for 2-1-2 Piscataquis Community. John Riitano made 10 saves on 11 shots.

Kevin Demers scored an unassisted goal for the 0-2 Patriots of Milo. Tom Gillis stopped 15 of 24 shots.

Lee 4, Greenville 0

At Lee, Derek Dicker scored three goals to power Lee.

Charlie Worcester assisted on two of Dicker’s goals and Danny Wyman assisted on the other. Will Cole added the fourth goal off a Wyman pass. Goalie Travis Jacobs made five saves on nine shots.

Greenville goalie Josh Glavine made 16 saves on 20 shots.

Schenck 3, Penobscot Valley 1

At Howland, Chris Wyman scored twice to pace Schenck. Wyman’s first goal was two minutes into the first half and his second was off an assist from Ryan O’Donnell with five minutes remaining in the game.

Nick Lyons added an unassisted goal with 28 minutes left in the first half. Aaron Turcotte saved 11 of 22 shots for 3-1-1 Schenck.

Matt Lindsay scored on a penalty kick to make the score 2-1 with 17 minutes left in the first half. Dave Stenzel recorded five saves on 11 shots for 1-4-1 Penobscot Valley of Howland.

Dexter 2, Searsport 2 (2OT)

At Dexter, Joey Light scored a goal off a Tucker Mercer direct kick with 32 seconds left to bring the visiting Vikings even.

Light finished with two goals for 3-1-1 Searsport, while Rusty Grover had an assist. Goalie Nate Hall stopped 10 of 37 shots.

Chaz Gokas and Matt Small scored a goal each for 1-3-1 Dexter, with Dan Fields and Gilbert Mallett notching assists. Goalkeeper Ryan Robichaud rejected 16 of 36 shots.

Islesboro 3, Higgins Christian

At Charleston, David Johnston scored one goal and assisted on another as Islesboro topped Higgins Christian Academy.

Ben Dove and Ian Gallant scored the other goals for Islesboro. Steve Shand made four saves on eight shots.

David Bryson scored the goal for 0-2-1 Higgins Christian Academy. Brandon Philbrick made 15 saves on 35 shots.

Bangor 1, Nokomis 1

At Newport, Bangor’s Matt Soucie scored an unassisted goal with 2:25 left in the game to tie it up at 1-1. Mike Arsenault saved eight of 12 shots for 1-2-1 Bangor.

Brandon Ellisen scored on a penalty kick with 28:55 left in the first half and Nick Wallace recorded 16 saves on 24 shots for 0-3-1 Nokomis.

Ellsworth 2, George Stevens 0

At Blue Hill, Darby Higgins scored two unassisted goals in the second half to lead Ellsworth.

Ryan Conley saved 10 of 14 shots for 3-0 Ellsworth.

Owen Newkirk recorded 11 saves on 24 shots for 2-3 George Stevens.

Orono 3, John Bapst 2 (2OT)

At the Eastern Maine Technical College field in Bangor, Tom Hite scored the game-winner with 1:40 remaining in the second overtime.

Hite also scored the first goal of the game off an assist from Chris Lapointe 6:27 into the first half. Christian Howlow tied it up at 2-2 off an assist from Hite with 8:33 remaining. Gary Mehuren recorded 12 saves on 21 shots for 2-3 Orono.

Haun Kaps netted two goals and Nate Susi added an assist to the effort for 1-5 John Bapst. Tim Smith saved nine of 19 shots.

Hampden 8, Old Town 2

At Hampden, senior striker Jeff Meinhart scored three goals and assisted on two more.

Glen McKay added three more goals for 3-1 Hampden while Gabe Brooks tallied one. Scott Tardif, Justin Groshon and Mike McCarthy contributed assists. Josh Quint made three saves on six shots.

Chris Brissette and Eric Stoup scored for 1-3 Old Town. John Graves made four saves on 32 shots.

Central 2, DI-Stonington 1

At Deer Isle, Justin Ladd’s goal with 26 minutes left broke a 1-1 tie and gave Central its first win after three losses.

Andy Koncinsky had the other Central goal and goalie Robin Reynolds made 21 saves. Ryan Rivera assisted on both goals.

Ben Barrows scored for the 2-2 Mariners and Andy Bye made 13 saves.

Mount Desert Island 4, Hermon 1

At Mount Desert, Keegan Drinkert scored a goal and an assist to lead the Trojans.

Justin Norwood scored the first goal off an assist from Jessy Hartson with 23 minutes left in the first half. Chris Slack netted a goal with 12 minutes left in the first off a pass from Travis Jones. Travis Walls added another goal with 31 minutes left in the game.

Mike Garrity recorded three saves on seven shots for the 4-1 Trojans.

Mike Dube put Hermon on the board with two minutes left in the game off an assist from Francisco Levita. Nick Watson saved 10 of 18 shots for the 2-3 Hawks.

JV: MDI 2, Hermon 1

Foxcroft Academy 4, Bucksport 0

At Dover-Foxcroft, Andy Hunt recorded a shutout by saving six of eight shots.

John Brennan scored a goal and two assists to lead the Ponies. Seth Kimball added a goal and an assist. Julian Campbell and Justing Clawson each scored goals for Foxcroft Academy. Andy Lizotte had an assist.

Chris Marzolf recorded 23 saves on 30 shots for Bucksport.

Girls soccer

Bangor Christian 3, Calais 1

At Bangor, Heidi Niles scored two unassisted goals to lead the Bangor Christian Patriots.

Lindsay Dupere also scored unassisted for the 3-0 Pats. Stephanie Regan saved 13 of 15 shots.

Jessie Carter scored unassisted and Beth Churchill had 18 saves on 22 shots for the 0-3 Blue Devils.

Hampden 4, Old Town 3

At Hampden, Amy Jo Crawford scored the game-winner with 1:09 left in the game off an assist from Amanda Burrill.

Annie Fitzpatrick tied the game at 1-1 with an unassisted goal at 31:54 in the first half. Burrill headed in another goal off an assist from Fitzpatrick. Samantha Shaw added the third goal for Hampden with 8:03 left in the first. Lisa Groseneck recorded seven saves on 10 shots for 4-0 Hampden.

Jody Kenniston scored two goals to lead Old Town. Kristin Tracewski added another at 12:06 left in the game.

Justine Ferland saved six of 18 shots for the 2-1 Indians.

Field hockey

Piscataquis 3, Stearns 0

At Guilford, the host Pirates received goals from three different players en route to the win.

Sacha Jackson, Garnet Korsman and Erin Smith had a goal each for 4-0 Piscataquis of Guilford and Darby Smiley had an assist. Goalie Jana Watson didn’t face a shot.

For 0-5 Stearns of Millinocket, Andrea Marquis made 19 saves on 22 shots.

JV: Piscataquis 3, Stearns 1

Central 2, Orono 0

At Central, Kim Black scored the game-winner 2:12 into the second.

Crystal Strout added an insurance goal with 12:17 left in the game. Jen Greatorex saved all six shots she faced for 3-1 Central.

Jen Brooks saved five of seven shots for 0-4 Orono.

Old Town 2, Mattanawcook 1

At Lincoln, Lisa Pyment and Niki Voyer each scored unassisted goals to lead Old Town.

Andry Brissette saved two of five shots for 3-0 Old Town.

Rachel Doane scored for Mattanawcook Academy off an assist from Candace Sabol to cut the lead to 2-1. Tracie Pickering made zero saves on three shots for the 1-2 Lynx of Lincoln.
