Gilbert sparks Pirates

GUILFORD – Trey Gilbert’s second goal of the game on an assist by Kyle Harrington gave the Piscataquis Community Pirates a 3-1 schoolboy soccer victory over the Searsport Vikings Monday.

Chris Conner assisted on Gilbert’s first goal for the 7-3-1 winners. Scott Decastro added an insurance goal and goalie John Riitano made seshots.

Steve Saucier scored unassisted for 7-3-1 Searsport and Nate Hall made nine saves on 20 shots.

MCI 3, Mount View 2

At Thorndike, Khano Smith scored the game-winning goal with one second left in regulation for Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield.

Jeff Giallombardo scored for 8-2-1 MCI off an assist from Mike Thompson. Thompson added a goal off a pass from Josh Lambert. Sean Souza made seven saves off 12 shots.

Pete Taliaferro and Jake Doan each scored a goal for 0-10-1 Mount View. Jake Von Oesen saved four of 18 shots.

JV: MCI 4, Mount View 1

Katahdin 2, Schenck 1

At Shermon Station, Willie Sleeper netted two goals.

Robbie Coyle had an assist and Ryan Robinson saved five of nine shots for 6-2-2 Katahdin.

Schenk’s Nate Jamo tied the game at 1-1 off an assist from Shawn Rosebush with 1:31 remaining in the first half. Aaron Turcotte and P.J. Ciarrocchi combined to save 10 of 23 shots for the 6-3-2 Wolverines.

Old Town 1, Nokomis 1 (2OT)

At Newport, Shawn Henderson scored the tying goal for 1-8-2 Nokomis off an assist from Dave Richards with 1:15 left in regulation.

Nick Wallace made five saves off six shots for the Warriors.

Eric Stoop scored off a pass from Dave May with 10:35 left in the second half for 2-6-1 Old Town and goalie John Graves stopped 10 of 28 shots.

Foxcroft Academy 7, Hermon 2

At Hermon, David Speed scored three goals to lead 7-2-1 Foxcroft.

John Brennan scored two goals and Seth Kimball had two assists for the winners. Julian Campbell and Justin Clawson each added a goal to the effort. Andy Hunt stopped 15 of 18 shots.

Ryan Scripture and Eion Pelletier each had a goal for 2-7-1 Hermon. Jeff Whitehouse made 15 saves off 28 shots.

Girls soccer

Lee 2, Southern Aroostook 1

At Lee, Katie Cormier scored two goals to lead 7-5 Lee Academy. Tori Nute made six of 10 saves for the winners.

Sue Greenlaw scored unassisted for 6-6 Southern Aroostook and Amanda Fitzherbert saved six of 20 shots.

Schenck 3, Penquis 0

At Milo, three different Wolverines scored in the victory.

All three goals were unassisted and came in the first half, with Erica Franck, Kasey Wyman, and Shannon Chavarie each scoring. Goalie Emily Davis earned the shutout with five saves for 8-1 Schenck.

Keepers Amy McInnis and Lillian Gerrish combined for 10 saves on 13 shots for 2-7 Penquis.

Foxcroft 6, Central 1

At Dover-Foxcroft, Laurie Lavoie and Nelly Campbell each scored two goals.

Sandy Beaulieu and Adrienne Smith had the other goals for 4-6 Foxcroft with Lavoie, Smith and Ronia Laita each notching an assist. Goalie Sherrie Zimmerman made four saves on eight shots.

Steph Partridge scored off a Katrina Huntley assist for 0-10 Central of East Corinth and Jen Allen rejected 22 of 42 shots.

Field hockey

John Bapst 3, Stearns 0

At Millinocket, Sophia Rogall, Erin Young and Kira Young each scored a goal to lead John Bapst.

Stephanie Philbrick made seven saves for the 9-2 winnners.

Andrea Marquis saved six of nine shots for 2-9 Stearns.

Nokomis 2, Central 1 (2OT)

At East Corinth, Liz Mandell scored the game-winning goal, an unassisted shot in the second overtime for the Warriors’ victory.

Mandell also scored with 10:59 left in the first half. Central’s Missy Krawczyk tied the game with 10 seconds left in regulation off an assist from Jess Moody.

Jillian Oliver saved eight of nine shots for 7-3 Nokomis. For 6-4 Central, Jen Greatorex had 14 saves on 20 shots.
