Sunday River opened for the ski season Thursday, opening the T2 trail and one chairlift on Locke Mountain in Newry. The resort will continue snowmaking around the clock, taking advantage of the cold temperatures.

Meanwhile, at Sugarloalf USA in Carrabassett Valley, the ski ares marked its earliest opening ever Thursday, as unseasonably cold temperatures in Northern New England allowed the resort to blow snow continuously since Wednesday afternoon.
