Derek Lovely, a freshman guard on the University of Southern Maine men’s basketball team, has been named the Maine College Basketball Coaches and Writers Association rookie of the week. Lovely averaged 13.7 points while shooting .481 from the field.

Rachel Wollstadt of the University of Southern Maine women’s hockey team has been selected as the East Coast Athletic Conference rookie of the week. Wollstadt, a freshman forward, totaled four goals and three assists in three wins for the week.
