PRESQUE ISLE — A Presque Isle businessman is believed to have won the Maine State Lottery’s Wednesday night drawing with a jackpot estimated at $1.2 million.
Norman Blotner purchased the ticket, 1-5-27-29-32-37, from Guerrette’s Market in Presque Isle, which will receive a percentage of the win after the state has verified the winning ticket.
Philip Guerrette said he believed Blotner was the only winner for the $1.2 million jackpot, and his store was the first in Presque Isle to sell a jackpot winning ticket.
Guerrette said Blotner called him after the numbers were announced on Wednesday night to report that his numbers matched.
“I didn’t believe him,” Guerrette said Thursday. “I told him he was full of prunes. He called me again this morning and said he had won.”
On Thursday morning, Blotner and his wife, Muriel, appeared at the store with the ticket bearing the winning numbers, Guerrette said. The store owner said he did not know if the numbers were selected by Blotner or were picked by the machine. Blotner buys tickets once or twice a week, Guerrette said.
Blotner could not be reached for comment on Thursday.
A spokesman at the Maine State Lottery Commission said Thursday that Blotner planned to travel to Augusta on Friday to present his ticket.
