Melcher helps Greenville open with victory Searsport, Camden Hills collect

BINGHAM – Megan Melcher connected on 15 points, including three 3-pointers, to help the Valley Cavaliers roll past the Greenville Lakers 46-16 in their schoolgirl basketball opener Friday night.

Crystal Rollins chipped in with eight points and Brianna Bellanger logged seven points, eight rebounds and six assists.

Elizabeth Farrington was led the Greenville offense with seven points.

At Houlton, Matt Michaud scored four goals, three of them shorthanded, to lead the Minutemen past the Black Hawks.

Tyler Pelkey scored the other goal for 1-0 Stearns of Millinocket with an assist from brother Devin Pelkey. Goalie Nick Simon made 38 saves on 41 shots.

Jared Sylvia tallied twice for Houlton-Hodgdon (0-1), and David Carmichael picked up the other. Chris Bither and Ben Carton had assists. Brandon Carmichael stopped 16 of the 21 shots he faced.

At Bingham, Brian Andre posted 23 points and 15 rebounds and Luke Hartwell tossed in 17 more as Valley rolled over Greenville.

Mark Gaudet came on with 16 points, including five 3-pointers. Lucas Melcher scored 14 and Jason Hartwell, Luke Hartwell’s twin, added nine.

Tyler Muzzy netted 17 and Jonathan Ethier added 11 for the Lakers.
