Balanced Ponies beat Minutemen

MILLINOCKET – Foxcroft Academy implemented a balanced scoring attack Tuesday night, placing four players in double figures en route to a 63-54 Class B schoolboy basketball victory over Stearns at Wentworth Gym.

Nathan Richards scored 18 points for the Ponies, Nate Laita and Andy Lizotte each put in 13, and Seth Kimball netted 11.

Cory Streams poured in a game-high 25 points for the Minutemen.

At Ellsworth, Ryan Conley gathered in the rebound of Nick Johnston’s shot and laid the ball in at the buzzer to propel Ellsworth past the defending Eastern Maine Class B champs.

Ellsworth got the ball back after a Bucksport traveling violation with 30 seconds left.

Johnston drove the lane and tossed up an eight-footer with three seconds to go that ended up short and dropped straight down into Conley’s hands. Mike Seltzer paced the balanced Eagle attack with 10 points. Conley finished with nine rebounds.

Cameron Giroux scored 18 points and Josh Clough added 16 for Bucksport.

At Alfond Arena in Orono, Jamie Brewer scored a goal and an assist to lead 3-1 Presque Isle’s balanced offense.

Joel Duncan, Derek Derosier, Josh Hayes and Jason Straetz each netted a goal for the winners. Joey Grenier saved six of eight shots and Scott Samiya, Kyle Folsom and Derrick Allen each had an assist.

Adam Ouellette scored a goal and an assist for 0-2 Stearns of Millinocket. Doug Morrison had a goal and Matt Lynch had an assist. Travis Cummings and Darrin Daniels combined to turn away 28 of 33 shots.

Bangor 11, Old Town 0

At Sawyer Arena in Bangor, David Lisnik scored three goals and picked up two assists as the Rams posted their first win after opening with two losses.

Jared Gordon, Chris Junkins, and Andy Sumner each tallied twice, and Stuart Cooper and Justin Libby scored once each. Gordon and Sumner also had a pair of assists apiece.

Jason Tuck and Nick Beaulieu teamed up to make 12 saves on 12 shots in the Bangor goal, while Adam Martell and Nathan Leeman combined to make 33 saves on 44 shots for the 0-3 Indians.
