Lawrence Lockman’s Op-ed column (BDN, Dec. 30) was so paranoid, illogical and twisted that it’s possible he actually wrote it himself. It’s sad that you wasted paper and ink on his diatribe.
I know Assistant Attorney General Steve Wessler, whom Lockman accuses of “abusing the power of his state office” to “hijack civil rights law” and “accommodate politically correct liberal fascism.” This is nonsense. Wessler has been a courageous, effective public servant. Because of his efforts, Maine is slowly becoming a state where bigotry and intolerance have no place.
I am proud and glad there are people like Wessler living in Maine. Most Mainers agree, and reject the prejudice of Lockman and his fellow haters. David Foley Northport
