Canadian pair sought in Ames fire Teens seen igniting shirts at Calais store

CALAIS – Police on Monday were looking for two Canadian juveniles accused of setting fire to clothes at the Ames department store on North Street.

Two males entered the store at about 4 p.m. Sunday and gathered 14 shirts valued at $350, then set fire to them, said Sgt. David Randall of the Calais Police Department. He said store employees extinguished the fire.

He said he did not know why the juveniles set the fire.

The juveniles left the store, got on their bicycles and traveled up North Street to the Milltown Bridge, a few miles north of the store, where they crossed into Canada.

Randall said police know that the “young teens” crossed into Maine at the Ferry Point Bridge.

The police have notified the St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Police Department.

He said they are asking people who might have seen anything suspicious Sunday to contact them at 454-2751
