Cyr scores 37, Howlers beat up Red Devils 72-65

EAST CORINTH – Nathan Cyr poured in 37 points to help the Penobscot Valley Howlers knock off the Central Red Devils Thursday night 72-65 in schoolboy basketball action.

Robbie Coyle and Steven Hallett each added 10 for the Howlers.

John King paced Central with 18 points. Scott Straub and Greg King scored 12 and 10, respectively.

At Lee, Dan Welch scored 16 of his 31 points in the first half and Nathan Shorey added 11 of his 15 as the Lynx cruised and overcame a 27-point effort from Lee’s Adam Peters, who scored his 1,000th career point.

Welch, a 6-foot-5 center, also grabbed 17 rebounds and Clint Sochulak chipped in with 10 points.

Peters, a 5-8 senior guard, finished his career at Lee with 1,023 points. Chris Carr chipped in with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

At Guiford, freshman Buddy Leavitt nailed a basket with 30 seconds left and Jacob Ginn and Trey Gilbert each added a free throw to secure the victory for Piscataquis Community.

Leavitt finished with 21 points, Ryan White added 14 and Ginn and Gilbert had 11 apiece. White also grabbed 10 rebounds.

At Dayton Arena in Brunswick, David Lisnik scored three goals and Justin Libby added two more as the Rams rolled.

Adam Violette, Eben Sypitkowski, Chris Junkins and Jon Kotredes each tallied a goal for Bangor. Jared Gordon and Stuart Cooper contributed two assists apiece for the Rams.

Bangor goalies Jason Tuck and Nick Beaulieu saved all six shots they faced. Scott Walker made 41 saves on 51 shots for Brunswick.
