UNew England rolls by UMM

BIDDEFORD – The University of New England Nor-easters went on a 26-9 run to close the first half and went on to claim a 60-48 women’s basketball win over the University of Maine-Machias Clippers Thursday night.

Wendy Atwood led all scorers with a game-high 29 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for UNE. Anna Staehli added 11 points.

Lori Morrow scored 25 points to pace the University of Maine-Machias.

At Biddeford, Tyler Lakin scored 20 points and grabbed 17 rebounds as the University of New England downed the UMaine-Machias Clippers.

Neal Trottier and Rob Cooper scored 10 points apiece for UNE.

Zeljko Bojic tossed in 28 points for the Clippers and Chad Dixon added 23 points and 10 rebounds.

At Augusta, Ish Gelpi’s 28 points led five Bengals in double figures as the University of Maine-Fort Kent advanaced in the National Small College Athletic Conference tournament with a win over the University of Maine-Augusta.

Shaun Tomblin added 25 points for UMFK. Bob Davies netted 18 points and James Osborne and Chris Angelosante added 13 and 10, respectively.

Rob Westbye scored 18 points to lead UMA. Charles Martz scored 17 points and Mike Dutil added 15.
