Bangor — Eastern Maine Medical Center’s Healthy Heart Program is holding two blood pressure-cholesterol screening programs in March. The first will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, at the Brewer Auditorium. The second will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, at EMMC’s Mason Auditorium. The screening now includes measurement of total and HDL (good) cholesterol. The cost is $10. Appointments are necessary and can be made by calling 973-7088.

Bangor — The Greater Bangor Area Post Polio Support Group is holding its February meeting from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28, at the offices of Maine Independent Living Services on Harlow Street. Anyone interested in learning more about post-polio syndrome and PPS management techniques is welcome. For more information, call 942-4422.

Bangor — A Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group meets at 4 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month at the St. Francis Center, opposite the Center Street entrance to St. Joseph Hospital. This is a community support group for individuals who have had, or are thinking about having gastric-bypass surgery to treat a severe overweight condition. Meetings are facilitated by Rosemarie Danelle, a clinical psychologist who is herself a gastric-bypass surgery patient, and Bangor surgeon Dr. Donald Clough. Family members are welcome. Bangor — “Caring for the abuse-affected child,” a training course to identify causes and effects of substance abuse, domestic violence and child abuse on the children in your care, will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 28 and March 7. The training, which is being held at Old Town High School, is designed to assist child-care providers in locating community resources that help meet the needs of abused children and their families.
