Jordan Allen hoop lifts Patriots over Howlers

MILO – Jordan Allen’s basket with two seconds remaining gave the Penquis Patriots a 48-46 schoolboy basketball win over Penobscot Valley in a seesaw affair.

Dustin Perkins scored 12 points to lead Penquis. His 3-pointer with 40 seconds left in the game tied the score. Allen finished with 11 points.

Brad Harris finished with 14 points, including a three-point play with 1:06 remaining that gave the Howlers of Howland the lead. Matt Mulligan topped all scorers with 17 points and Morgan Doyon chipped in with 10.

At Brunswick, the Dragons went to a full-court press in the third period and reeled off a 19-0 run en route to the win.

Taylor Caron scored 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds and Ralph Mims added 10 points and seven assists as the Dragons opened their Eastern Maine Class A campaign with a win.

Due to a shuffling of teams, the Dragons have moved from Western Maine to the EM ranks this season.

R.J. Anzelc scored nine points for the Indians.

At Lincoln, the Pirates recovered from a 10-6 first quarter deficit to go on a 22-0 run and lead the rest of the game.

Keith Dawson led all scorers with 23 points for PCHS of Guilford. Kyle Pulkkinen netted 15 points. Ben Smith and Harper Hoffman each added 10 points for the Pirates.

Jon Carney led the Lynx with 15 points, while Dan LaPlante added 11.

At Rockland, a pair of double-doubles from Stacey Marcotte and Annie Pennell gave the Tigers their first win of the season.

Marcotte netted 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Pennell had 24 points while hauling in 15 rebounds. Kirby Gushee added eight points and eight rebounds.

Becky Palmer led the Raiders of Sabattus with 11 points.

At Hampden, Megan Magoon scored 11 of her game-high 24 points in the fourth quarter as the Broncos held off a Bangor rally.

The Rams whittled Hampden’s 12-point lead after three quarters down to two, but Magoon’s seven free throws in the fourth helped preserve the win.

Emmy Russell added eight points and eight rebounds for Hampden.

Katherine Miller topped the Rams with 14 points and 12 rebounds, and Sarah Michaud added 10 points. Marissa McLeod had five steals.

Searsport held Sumner to four first-quarter points as it jumped out to an early 10-point lead.

At the T.J. Ryan Center in Brewer, Colin Ingram and Patrick Bailey each knocked in a goal to lift the Broncos past the Wildcats.

Mike Brooks assisted on Bailey’s goal for 3-0 Hampden. Garrett McGowan made 17 saves in net.

Anthony Bohovich had the goal for 0-1 Presque Isle. Travis Shaw made 17 saves on 19 shots.

Gardiner 9, Stearns 4

At Houlton, the Tigers were led by four players with two goals each.

Ben Brown, Brian Jean, Kevin McKay, and Lake Gould each scored two goals for Gardiner. Brown also had four assists. Scott Moulton added a goal for the Tigers.

Matt Michaud led the Minutemen with two goals and two assists. Drew Summers and George Shurrette also scored for Stearns of Millinocket.

Brown, McKay, Gould, and Jean all scored their goals during power plays.

Spencer Lahaie had 26 saves for 2-0 Gardiner. Nick Simon stopped 35 shots for 1-1 Stearns.
