Four area teen-agers who left on a “road trip” Friday were located Sunday by police in Indiana. Their parents reportedly were making arrangements for their return this week, according to Sgt. Troy Morton of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department.

Authorities declined to release the teen-agers’ names.

A 17-year-old Kenduskeag girl and three boys, ages 15 and 16, from various Penobscot County communities, left the state Friday in the girl’s father’s 1992 Plymouth Acclaim, Morton said. One of the girl’s parents contacted authorities after the girl failed to return from work. It was Morton’s understanding that none of the teen-agers was enrolled in school.

Morton said that the girl left a note behind saying that the four were “taking the road trip of a lifetime” and that they had access to cash while on the road. The adventure, however, was cut short when the four were located by police in Indiana.

Though details of how the four came to the attention of Indiana authorities weren’t immediately available,

Morton said that the teen-agers were reported as runaways, and the car reported as missing to the National Crime Information Center, which issued nationwide bulletins.

Morton did not anticipate any charges in connection with the episode.
