3 charged for assaults in Presque Isle

PRESQUE ISLE – Three men were in the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton Friday night on charges stemming from two unrelated attacks in Presque Isle.

Chad Gagnon, 18, and Derick Nickerson, 21, were arrested Friday on charges of robbery and assault in connection with an incident earlier in the day in downtown Presque Isle.

Detective Wayne Selfridge of the Presque Isle Police Department said Gagnon and Nickerson allegedly assaulted and robbed a Caribou pedestrian.

Aroostook County District Attorney Neale Adams said the pair allegedly used a stun gun to attack the victim from behind. When that didn’t work, the men hit their victim.

Nickerson and Gagnon were later arrested. A search warrant executed at Nickerson’s home resulted in the seizure of the stun gun.

The men appeared in 2nd District Court in Presque Isle on Friday. Bail for Gagnon was set at $7,500 cash or $15,000 surety. Nickerson’s bail was set at $12,500 or $25,000 surety.

Presque Isle police Officers Mark Barnes and Jeffrey Mechalko assisted in the investigation.

In an unrelated incident, a 23-year-old Fort Fairfield man was being held on $2,000 cash bail or $4,000 surety in connection with a robbery and kidnapping that occurred in Presque Isle on Dec. 11.

Jonathan Lacroix was arrested in connection with an alleged attack on a businessman who was visiting the area. Lacroix appeared in court Friday in Presque Isle.

The man who was attacked told police he had been beaten, bound and robbed on Main Street.

Selfridge, assisted by Officer Mark Barnes, conducted the investigation that led to the arrest of Lacroix.
