Bangor High School hockey center Jared Gordon, who racked up 138 points in his three seasons with the Rams, is transferring to St. Paul’s School in Concord, N.H. in the fall. He will spend two years at St. Paul’s as he will repeat his junior year.

“[Transferring] has been in the back of my mind since my freshman year. In order to get exposure out of state, you’ve got to leave the state,” said Gordon. “Getting an extra year of hockey and academics before heading off to college will be to my advantage. The hockey will be a lot faster than it is up here and when you play with [and against] better players, it makes you a better player.”

St. Paul’s coach Bill Matthews said, “Jared is going to help us. He will take a regular shift for us and will be on the ice at important moments in the game. We need more offensive threats and he’ll help us there. I like the wasy he sees the ice and moves the puck. He has great hands and skates well.”

Gordon, who led the 14-8 Rams with 28 goals and 24 assists this past season, said he will need to improve “my intensity off the puck” and said he is confident he can contribute right away.

“I play all summer [in Massachusetts] against kids who play down there [in the prep school leagues] and I keep right up with them,” said Gordon. “I’m not sure what will be expected of me next season but I’ll try to make the best of it.”

The 5-foot-11, 151-pound Gordon, who is 17 years old, said he will miss not graduating with his friends at Bangor High “but this is what everyone goes through when they go away to college. I’m just going a year sooner.”
