Washburn sizzles in fifth for win

WASHBURN – The Beavers rallied for 12 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as Washburn topped Wisdom of St. Agatha 20-16 in schoolgirl softball action Tuesday.

Kerry Flanagin cracked a two-run triple in the fifth for Washburn and added a single. Melissa Jordan and Angela Flanagin each hit two singles and drove in a run.

Nina Michaud doubled, singled twice and drove in two runs for the Pioneers, who suffered theier first defeat this season. Courtney Lugdon ripped three singles and Becky Pelletier had two singles.

At Hodgdon, Staci Bell doubled twice and tripled while driving in five runs to lead the Hawks.

Danielle Pelletier had three singles and two RBIs for the winners. Danielle Fitzpatrick chipped in with two singles and two RBIs.

Charity Cumming singled twice and drove in two runs for Central Aroostook of Mars Hill. Andrea Lunn added an RBI single.

Calais 18, Lubec 3

At Calais, Tricia Farrell homered and doubled to drive in three runs as Calais rolled.

Leigh-Ann Hanson slapped three singles and drove in three runs for the Blue Devils. Alaina Wallace singled twice and drove in a run.

Alicia Ames and Jodi Jones had a single apiece for Lubec.

Mattanawcook 11, Schenck 4

At Lincoln, Stephanie Lowell drove in the winning runs with a two-run single in the fifth inning as Mattanawcook Academy downed Schenck of East Millinocket.

Lowell went six innings, combining with Kari Vance on a three-hitter for Mattanawcook. Tracie Pickering tripled and Taryn Turcotte doubled.

Melissa Duprey and Michelle Clukey had an RBI single each.

At Dexter, Amber Pinkham tripled and singled twice to pace a 13-hit attack that sparked Sumner.

Elizabeth Young had three singles and an RBI for the winners. Amanda Erwin had two singles and two RBIs. Danielle Martin doubled and singled and Tovan Willey hit an RBI-triple.

Amy Stevens, with seventh-inning relief help from Sarah Timmons, picked up the win.

Christine Buzzell had a triple and two singles for Dexter and Sonya Fletcher had a pair of singles and an RBI.

At Milo, Mandy Morey hit a single with two outs to score Erin Weston and get a 10th inning victory for the Patriots.

Lil Gerrish added a double, a single and an RBI. Weston hit three singles and drove in a run and Miranda Nichols hit two singles.

Sarah Webster struck out 11 batters and added two singles and an RBI. Jen Mare had three singles.

Maranacook 14, Mount View 1

At Thorndike, Sonia Masse fired a four-hitter as Maranacook of Readfield got the win.

Kristen Sinclair had two singles and drove in a run for the Black Bears. Nina Graham doubled for Mount View.

Bucksport 4, George Stevens 3

At Blue Hill, Bucksport plated two runs in the top of the ninth when Nikki Sheehan drove in the go-ahead run and Kara Henderson scored on a passed ball as the Golden Bucks remained undefeated.

Sheehan finished with two singles and two RBIs. Kelly Downes struck out 11 and walked none. Jessica Sawyer singled and tripled.

Jeanna LeClerc hit a two-run double in the sixth inning and singled twice for GSA of Blue Hill. Jennie Austin had two singles including an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth. Heidi Carroll was saddled with the loss, allowing seven hits while striking out five and walking none.
