Lee nips Dragons in 2OT Pickering, Cole, Ham help Pandas win sixth game

WOODLAND – Shelby Pickering and Sam Cole each had a basket in the second overtime and Deidra Ham made five free-throws in the extra periods, as the Lee girls basketball team knocked off Woodland 65-59 in double overtime Saturday in high school action.

Pickering and Ham each finished with 21 points for the Pandas. Lee went 8-for-12 from the free-throw line in overtime and 13-for-15 overall.

Julia Knights had 20 points and 12 rebounds for the defending Class D champion Dragons. Kaitlyn Leeman contributed 14 points and eight assists and Katie Smith chipped in with 13 points.

At T.J. Ryan Arena in Brewer, the Crusaders broke open a 2-2 game in the second period with three goals to earn the win.

John Motta powered 4-2 John Bapst of Bangor with three goals and an assist. Zach Means chipped in with two goals and an assist. Taylor Lynn racked up three assists and Dan Leighton made 29 saves on 32 shots. The Crusaders took advantage of six Bronco penalties in the second period.

Jeff Mayhew scored twice for 3-4 Hampden and Mike Brooks added a goal. Greg Taylor had two assists. Garrett Macgowan and Dave Dibler combined for 18 saves on 23 shots.
