Fun and game

So you have 250 pounds of moose meat in your freezer and you’re not sure what to do with it. Plus, you’d really like to make room for some ice cream. Aroostook County cookbook author Joyce Reed Damboise can help. Damboise recently published “Wilderness Cooking in the Home,” which includes more than 60 recipes for moose meat, rabbit, duck, pheasant, bear, beaver, salmon, smelts and venison, among others. Damboise wrote the book specifically for people who don’t like to cook wild game. For information, call 498-6367. To order a copy, send a check or money order for $12 ($10 plus shipping and handling) to: Joyce Reed Damboise, 1324 Madawaska Road, Connor Township, ME 04736.

Veg out

The Southwest Harbor Medical Center clinic committee will sponsor a free vegetarian cooking class at Mount Desert Island High School’s home economics kitchen. Regina Ploucquet, who runs the West of Eden bed and breakfast in the Tremont village of Seal Cove, will teach the four-week class. Though the course is free, registration is required because size is limited. To register or for information, call 244-5753 and leave a message.

Maine milk model

Andrea Owens, a 16-year-old from Oxford, was chosen from more than 37,000 contestants nationwide to pose in the newest “Got Milk?” ad. She entered when the Chocolate Milk Mustache Mobile tour rolled into Portland last September and was flown to New York City for a professional photo shoot. She and two other winners will appear in an upcoming issue of Inside Stuff, the official magazine of the National Basketball Association.
