Wildcats defeat Broncos> Ryan Saucier provides goal, assist to pace Presque Isle

PRESQUE ISLE – Ryan Saucier scored one goal and assisted on another Saturday, leading Presque Isle to a 4-1 schoolboy soccer victory over Hampden Academy.

Jamie Brewer scored unassisted for the 4-1 winners and Saucier scored off a free kick from goalie Jeff Yeager. Adam Murchison added the third goal and Yeager finished with six saves on 15 shots.

Sean Tardiff converted a Derek Rodgerson assist for 0-1 Hampden and goalie Noah Peet made seven saves on 13 shots.

Bangor Christian 7, Lubec 1

At Bangor, Nate Conley scored two unassisted goals in each half to lift Bangor Christian past Lubec.

Romalo Costas added a pair of goals for the Patriots, now 1-0. Joe Craig added a goal. Mark Reitsma and John Hutchinson combined to make nine saves on 12 shots.

Brannin Buener scored a goal for 0-1 Lubec. Stephen Seavey turned away 14 of 23 shots.

Houlton 2, Hodgdon 2 (OT)

At Houlton, Dave Gray converted a Chris Minch pass with 17 minutes left in the second half as Hodgdon salvaged a tie with Houlton.

Eli Jipson added a goal for 5-0-1 Hodgdon on a second-half penalty kick. Matt Allen made eight saves on 25 shots.

For Houlton, now 1-2-2, Ben Nelson scored on a pass from Joe Husted. Luke Bernard added a goal on an assist from Ben Straubl. David Carter stopped four of eight shots.

Greenville 2, Vinalhaven 1

At Greenville, Tom Mason’s goal with 11:40 left in the second half provided the difference as Greenville defeated Vinalhaven.

Tom Demming scored on an assist from Charlie Bradford 8:33 into the second half for the 2-0 Lakers. Aaron Crossman made one save on 23 shots.

Bill Dickey staked 0-2 Vinalhaven to a 1-0 lead with 4:01 left in the first half, scoring an unassisted goal. Chris Guptill made 11 saves on 13 shots.

Belfast 0, Mount View 0 (OT)

At Belfast, defense was the name of the game with Belfast goalie Kevin Herbig and Mustangs ‘keeper Jake Von Oesen throwing shutouts.

Herbig made seven saves on nine Mount View shots for the Lions, while Von Oesen stopped eight of Belfast’s 17 shots in the season opener for both teams.

Girls soccer

Hampden 4, Presque Isle 2

At Presque Isle, Lindsay Bilts scored two goals and added an assist to power the Broncos.

Bilts made it 1-1 in the first half and then scored unassisted after Sam Shaw tallied in the second half. Katie Jackson scored off a Bilts assist.

Sarah Fraunhofer stopped 12 of 26 shots, turning away 10 of 19 shots in the first half, when Presque Isle had the advantage of a fierce wind.

Presque Isle’s Billie Hayward opened the scoring converting Wildcat goalie Jen Hallett’s assist. Katie Peers scored later off a Melissa Hendrickson assist.

Hallett made 14 saves on 24 shots, stopping 11 of 19 shots in the second half.

Fort Kent 2, Calais 1

At Fort Kent, Billie-Jo Caron’s unassisted goal with 20:36 left in the game gave the Warriors the winning edge.

Megan Foreman scored a first-half goal for the 2-3 winners off a Michelle Lozier assist. Goalie Danielle Harvey made eight saves on 11 shots.

Elizabeth Churchill scored unassisted for 1-1 Calais and goalie Rachel Clark made nine saves on 16 shots.

Houlton 1, Hodgdon 1 (OT)

At Houlton, Jessica London scored on an assist from Carrie Edwards 9:26 into the game to tie the score as Houlton and Hodgdon played to a tie.

Danielle Fitzpatrick turned away 14 of 27 shots for Hodgdon, which moved to 5-0-2.

Hannah Socoby scored on an assist from her sister, Kelly Socoby, just 1:28 into the game for Houlton, now 2-2-1. Jessica Prosser made five saves on six shots.

Foxcroft 3, Hermon 2 (2 OT)

At Dover-Foxcroft, Ronia Laita converted a Laura Kurzius pass with 3:59 left in the second overtime to help Foxcroft win its opener.

Laita scored her first goal 36 seconds into the game, then Nelly Campbell tied the game with a penalty kick late in the second half. Sherrie Zimmerman made eight saves on 17 shots.

Miranda Robinson and Lindsay Duplisea scored first-half goals for 0-1 Hermon. Courtney Reynolds assisted on Duplisea’s goal. Heather SHermon. Courtney Reynolds assisted on Duplisea’s goal. Heather Small stopped 13 of 25 shots.

Searsport 9, DI-Stonington 0

At Deer Isle, Sarah Ginn had two goals and an assist and Brandi McKenson had three goals and one assist to lead the Vikings in their season opener.

Lasha Kaeller also scored twice while Abby Klotzle, Michele Murphy added goals.

Jesse Barton turned away the three shots she saw.

Roz Santospago made 15 saves on 27 shots for the Mariners.

Orono 3, John Bapst 0

At Orono, Meghann Taylor stopped six of seven shots in goal as Orono posted the season-opening shutout on Saturday.

Katie Libby scored a goal and added an assist for the 1-0 Red Riots. Lorie Mehuren scored on a pass from Jessica Libby and Mindy Lane added a goal.

Kristen Sekera made 11 saves on 25 shots for John Bapst of Bangor.

Field Hockey

Piscataquis 4, Orono 1

At Guilford, Miranda Durant and Garnet Korsman scored a pair of goals each as Piscataquis Community opened its season with a win.

Durant scored on a pass from Cassidy Regan and added an unassisted goal for the Pirates. Korsman tallied goals on assists from Shandi Drew and Kasey Weymouth. Kalli Pulkkinen stopped four of five shots.

Pam Ventura scored 0-1 Orono’s goal on assists from Maia Pinsky and Chelsea Dwyer. Jenn Brooks made 17 saves on 21 shots.

JV: Piscataquis 5, Orono 1

Foxcroft Academy 10, Brewer 0

At Dover-Foxcroft, Davan Clawson scored three goals and assisted on another as Foxcroft Academy downed Brewer in their mutual opener.

Holli Nichols scored three goals for the Ponies. Amy Kelley, Becky Warren, Shauna Gentry and Lindsey Hill scored one goal apiece. Angela Cookson added an assist. Beth Lewis didn’t face any shots in goal.

Jessica Rowles made 17 saves on 31 shots for the Witches.
