Yaeger, defense perfect in Presque Isle shutout

PRESQUE ISLE – Jeff Yaeger made three saves on four shots as Presque Isle posted a 2-0 schoolboy soccer win over Aroostook County rival Caribou on Wednesday.

Ryan Saucier scored an unassisted goal with 9:32 left in the game for the 6-2 Wildcats. Adam Murchison scored Presque Isle’s first goal with an assist from Nick Nadeau.

Mike Michaud tallied saves on 13 of 19 shots for Caribou, now 1-3-2.

Easton 3, CAHS 2

At Easton, Matt Hopkins tallied the go-ahead goal with just over 14 minutes remaining to propel the Bears.

Seth Harris scored two Easton goals within one minute of each other in the first period. One came unassisted, while the other was assisted by Matt Hopkins and Adam Jandreau. Jeff Blackstone made four saves on 12 shots for the 5-9 winners.

Jordan Codrey scored two goals for 1-10 Central Aroostook of Mars Hill. Brandon Boyd assisted on the second. Brad Walsh made six saves on 14 shots.

Fort Kent 3, Limestone 1

At Limestone, John Smith and Kelly Stedt each had a goal and an assist to lead Fort Kent to the win.

David Roy scored a goal for the 5-4 Warriors. Mitch Daigle had an assist and Ben Raymond made 17 saves on 24 shots.

Andy Rasche scored the lone goal for the 2-7-2 Eagles on Raul Luna’s assist. Peter Bradley saved 24 of 33 shots.

Sumner 3, Machias 2

At Machias, Matt Welch scored the game-winning goal with an assist from Jeff Crowley with 24:06 left in the game to lead the Tigers of East Sullivan.

Welch also scored off a pass from Lautaro Ricci. Jeff Crowley scored unassisted. Goalie Ben Huber saved five of six shots for 1-4 Sumner.

Machias’ Erik Smith scored unassisted and Aaron Getchell netted a goal off an assist from Micah Hall. Kevin Loughlin stopped 10 of 13 shots for the 2-2 Bulldogs.

Ashland 8, Washburn 1

At Ashland, Rustin Lovewell and Lee Bennett paced a seven-goal Hornet assault in the second half.

Lovewell scored three goals within seven minutes of each other to go with two assists. Bennett tallied two goals. Darren Belskis registered two assists to go with a goal. Charles Robinson and James Dwyer rounded out the scoring for 4-2 Ashland. Eric Ham and Alan Hitchcock combined for seven saves on 10 shots.

Kyle Thibodeau scored off a Frank Plucker pass in the first half for 5-7-2 Washburn. Nick Thompson made eight saves on 36 shots.

Girls soccer

Washburn 2, Ashland 1

At Ashland, Amanda Umphrey’s first-half goal and Kerry Flanagan’s second-half goal staked Washburn to a 2-0 lead and the Beavers held on for their sixth win against seven losses.

Amy Allen made six saves on eight shots for 6-7 Washburn.

Heidi Maker scored for 1-5 Ashland. Linda Cobb assisted on the goal. Kim Oakes rejected four of 10 shots for Ashland.

Houlton 3, Calais 0

At Calais, Kelley Socoby scored two goals and Amber Howe tallied a goal and assist, leading the Shiretowners to the shutout.

Hannah Socoby also had an assist for 6-2-1 Houlton. Jessica Prosser made eight saves on 10 shots.

Rachel Clark stopped eight of 15 shots for 3-3 Calais.

Fort Kent 4, Limestone 2

At Limestone, Billie Jo Caron and Jess Gagnon each scored two goals to lift the Warriors to the victory.

Jess Gagnon and Michelle Lozier assisted on Caron’s goals. Heather Bard and Jen Voisine assisted on Gagnon’s goals. Rolande Jondro saved nine of 11 shots she faced.

Chrissy Harvey scored on an assist from Amanda Brooker and Allison Dugal recorded an unassisted goal for Limestone Metta Ritz stopped 15 of 19 shots.

Woodland 4, East Grand 3

At Woodland, Kristin Laplant racked up two goals and two assists, including the go-ahead score, for the Dragons.

Jen Brown tallied a goal and assist for 2-1 Woodland, with Ali Seavey also finding the net. Jen Boston made 20 saves on 26 shots.

Tracy Brackett had a goal and an assist for 1-3 East Grand. Brandy Osnoe and Tara Cropley also had goals. Mesha Whitney registered an assist. Lyndsay Faillanok made nine saves on 18 shots.

Fort Fairfield 3, CAHS 0

At Fort Fairfield, Kiersten McCrea and Kelly Stevens each scored unassisted goals to lead the Tigers to the victory over Central Aroostook of Mars Hill.

Janet Hyslop stopped each of the three shots she faced in the first half and scored a goal in the second for the 6-3 Tigers. Keely Sayers combined on the shutout with Hyslop.

Darcy Walsh made 22 saves on 30 shots for the 4-6 Panthers.

Schenck 2, Katahdin 1

At East Millinocket, Erin Johnston scored both goals for the host Schenck Wolverines, notching the game-winner with eight minutes left in the game.

Both goals came on penalty shots. Emily Davis stopped six of eight shots for the 3-0 Wolverines.

For the 2-3-1 Cougars of Sherman Station, Melissa Landry scored unassisted and Laura Ordway made seven saves on 12 shots.
