LEWISTON – Andrew Apstein tallied three goals and one assist to lead Bates College to a 6-1 men’s soccer victory over the University of Maine-Farmington Wednesday.
Chris Sporcic, Stephen Coco and Dan Lapenta each scored. Eric Trickett added three assists and Chad Lufauci had one for the 1-0 Bobcats.
Kristopher O’Neil scored the UMaine-Farmington goal with an assist from Jeff Meinhart.
UNE 3, Colby-Sawyer 2
At Biddeford, Clint Banks scored three minutes into the second half to break a 2-2 tie for the win.
Randy Gazaille scored 21 minutes into the first half. Bob Nadeau tied it up with 14 minutes left in the period. Rich Niles and Ian Nagus combined for nine saves on 15 shots for the 1-1 Nor’easters.
Chris Fitzpatrick and Mike Hatchey scored for 2-2 Colby-Sawyer of New London, N.H.
Women’s soccer
UM-Farmington 1, Husson 0
At Bangor, Michelle Blanchard’s goal was all the Beavers would need for the win.
Blanchard scored with 17:30 left in the game off an assist from Vicky Cyr. Pam Goyette made one save on three shots.
Husson goalie Nicole Steinhart stopped 14 of 20 shots.
Field hockey
UM-Farmington 4, St. Joseph’s 1
At Prescott Field in Farmington, Michelle Ouellette notched two goals to lead the Beavers to the win.
Kristie Cummings and Melanie Fuller also scored for UMaine-Farmington.
Jen Buzzell recorded a goal for the Monks of Standish.
Bowdoin 3, Bates 0
At Brunswick, Johanna Babb scored two second-half goals within seven minutes of each other and assisted on a third, as the Polar Bears blanked Bates.
Babb assisted on Allison Scaduto’s first half goal for 2-0 Bowdoin. Dana Krueger made eight saves.
Peggy Ficks had six saves for 0-1 Bates.
