Regarding the column of John Day on Sept. 23, and the subject of crimes and misdemeanors, it’s too bad he did not do the moralistic thing and come out from behind his motel curtain and put a stop to the harassment that was taking place before his very eyes.
Is that what all politics are about? Why did he not consider the option of just going out there and stopping what he saw going on? Today’s politicians are hiding behind the same curtain he was — peeking out and doing nothing.
Day should not blame this attitude on them for he did not fail Linda Tripp’s litmus test, he failed himself. He at least owes the poor harassed waitress an apology. Too bad the majority of the public seemingly peers from behind curtains and does nothing.
I don’t like reading about how low the presidential office has sunk and I am saddened that the sex issue is taking up so much space. What really bothers me is a president who will compromise the values of the law and lie under oath. Now that’s one big curtain! Peggy Bochkay Lincolnville
