Wyman goals key as Dexter Tigers claw back

DEXTER – Chris Wyman scored two goals, including the game winner with 19:54 left in the second half as Dexter defeated Deer Isle-Stonington 3-2 in boys soccer action Monday.

Dan Fields contributed a goal on an assist from Danny Cox for the Tigers. Matt Foster added an assist. Ryan Robichaud stopped 10 of 16 shots.

Andy Eaton registered two goals for the Mariners. Josh Balton added an assist. Eric Ray made eight saves on 33 shots.

Katahdin 2, Piscataquis 1 (2OT)

At Guilford, Dustin Morgan’s goal with 1:44 left in the second overtime lifted the Cougars past the Pirates.

Nick Cullen assisted on the game-winner. Morgan also scored an unassisted goal in the second half to tie the contest. Chris Jilek stopped eight of 23 shots for 6-4 Katahdin of Sherman Station.

Chris Conner started the scoring with a second-half goal, assisted by Josh Haskell. Buddy Leavitt made 19 saves on 22 shots for 2-5-2 Piscataquis Community.

Woodland 3, Jonesport-Beals 1

At Woodland, John Kesel and Bob Chandler scored 3:23 apart in the first half to provide Woodland with a win over Jonesport-Beals.

Chandler and Kris McAlpine had a goal and an assist each for Woodland, now 4-3-1. Frankie Morrison added an assist. Marlon Lutz made 15 saves on 20 shots.

Shane Alley scored on a pass from Ira Kelley with 10:48 left in the second half for 6-2 Jonesport-Beals. Mike Lewark made 14 saves on 19 shots.

Greenville 4, Valley 0

At Bingham, Tom Deming scored one goal and assisted on two others to lead Greenville to its fifth win of the season.

Tyler Muzzy scored a pair of goals for 5-2 Greenville. Alex Rockwell added a goal and an assist. Aaron Crossman made six saves on 26 shots.

For Valley, now 2-8, Terry Nichols made 11 saves on 15 shots.

MCI 2, Oak Hill 1

At Sabattus, Josh Lambert scored a goal and assisted on another as Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield downed Oak Hill.

Khano Smith netted the game-winner on a pass from Lambert for the 8-1 Huskies. Shaun Souza made six saves on 16 shots.

Eric Ashton registered an unassisted goal for 3-5-1 Oak Hill. Christian Bailey stopped 11 of 33 shots.

Nokomis 2, Brewer 0

At Newport, Trenton Estes’ first-half goal off an Adam Austin throw-in proved to be the game-winner as Nokomis improved to 3-6.

Dave Richard added an insurance goal in the second half and Tyler Peters made 10 saves on 13 shots.

Dave Johnson made five stops on 13 shots for the 1-7-1 Witches.

Islesboro 9, Higgins 2

At Islesboro, David Cowan had a soccer hat trick and an assist to lead the Islesboro Vikings to the win over Higgins Christian Academy.

Jon Bolduc had two goals and an assist for the 4-2 Vikings. Ian Gallant and Tracey Wuri each had a goal and an assist while Ben Dove added a goal. Steve Shand saved two of four shots.

David Bryson scored both goals and David Day had an assist for 1-4-1 Higgins. Brandon Philbrick saved 15 of 21 shots.

Penquis 4, Central 0

At Milo, after being held scoreless in the first half, the host Penquis Patriots exploded in the second and Eric Ballash led the way with two goals and an assist.

Jeremy Allen had a goal and an assist for the 7-2 Patriots. Bud Webb scored on a penalty kick and Mike Grindle saved eight of 15 shots for his second shutout.

James Nickerson saved 11 of 23 shots for the 7-2 Red Devils of East Corinth.

Foxcroft Academy 6, Old Town 1

At Dover-Foxcroft, Adrian Buschman scored a goal and added an assist to lift Foxcroft Academy past Old Town.

Aaron Soumi, Andy Lizotte, Jon Niland, Gordon Smith and Derrick Merrill each scored one goal for the 4-3-2 Ponies. Rui Mauro Bacchi Furtado added an assist. Mike Grant and John Tabor combined to stop 10 of 20 shots.

Ryan Bernard netted an unassisted goal for 0-9 Old Town. Tim Dolley and Jeremy Knapp combined to stop 15 of 37 shots.

Winslow 3, Belfast 1

At Belfast, Mike Belisle scored two goals 43 seconds apart late in the second half to lift Winslow past Belfast.

Travis Bickford contributed a goal and an assist for 3-4-1 Winslow. Ben Fraser notched an assist. Jason Bibeau stopped 13 of 18 shots.

John Cameron scored on a pass from Drew Shula for 1-5-3 Belfast. Kevin Herbig made eight saves on 13 shots.

George Stevens 4, Sumner 1

At East Sullivan, Troy Bannister netted a pair of goals as George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill toppled host Sumner.

Chad Mattson and Josh Hatch scored unassisted goals for the Eagles. Zach Davies picked up an assist on Bannister’s first goal. Andrew O’Neil made eight saves on 12 shots.

Lautaro Ricci scored on an assist from Ryan Frye for the Tigers. Ben Hubbar and James Malloy combined for 15 saves on 27 shots.

MDI 5, Bucksport 0

At Mount Desert Island, Tyler Jones scored two goals to lead the MDI Trojans to the shutout over the Golden Bucks.

For the 7-2 Trojans, B.J. Greenleaf, Jared Archilles and Andrew Joseph each scored a goal. Mike Garrity made three saves on four shots.

For the 0-9 Bucks, Kyle Hawes saved 11 of 26 shots.

Searsport 4, Lee Academy 2

At Lee, four different players scored goals for Searsport as it downed Lee Academy to remain undefeated.

Steve Saucier, Rodney Damon, Rusty Grove and Pasco Grove each had one goal for the 8-0 Vikings. Aaron Ward registered Searsport’s only assist on Saucier’s goal. Nate Hall made nine saves on 15 shots.

Derek Dicker scored two goals for 7-2 Lee Academy. Chris Carr had one assist. Travis Jacobs stopped 16 of 27 shots.

Schenck 2, Penobscot Valley 0

At East Millinocket, Shawn Rosebush had a goal and an assist to lead the Schenck Wolverines to the win over Penobscot Valley of Howland.

Matt Bouchard scored a goal for the 4-4-1 Wolverines and Andy Turcotte had an assist. Aaron Turcotte saved four of four shots for his fourth shutout of the season.

Morgan Doyon saved 15 of 17 shots for the 2-5-1 Howlers.

Ellsworth 6, Orono 1

At Orono, Graham MacBeth had two goals and three assists as his Ellsworth Eagles put down the Red Riots.

Cooper Friend had a goal and two assists for the 6-3 Eagles. Eric Awalt, Aaron Archer, and Joe Richards each scored a goal. Joe Richards saved seven of 14 shots.

For the 4-3-1 Red Riots, Jake Hedstrom scored on a Ben Enos assist. Mark Mehuren and Robert Murdock combined to make 17 saves on 28 shots.

Hermon 3, John Bapst 1

At Hermon, Kurt Calligan scored two goals to pace the Hermon Hawks to the victory.

Eion Pelletier had an unassisted goal and two assists for the 5-4 Hawks. Jeff Whitehouse saved seven of 11 shots.

Nate Susi scored on a Casey Lawson assist and Bill Chapman made 13 saves on 17 shots for the 4-3-1 John Bapst Crusaders.

Girls soccer

Valley 2, Greenville 1

At Greenville, Tiffany Messer’s unassisted goal with 12:39 left in the second half lifted Valley of Bingham over Greenville.

Erin Melcher scored an unassisted goal with 32:33 left in the second half to for Valley, now 4-4. Megan Dunton made four saves one 12 shots.

Julie Richardson scored with 3:35 left in the second half for Greenville, now 0-6-1. Jessie Craft stopped eight of 17 shots.

MCI 3, Oak Hill 2

At Pittsfield, the Maine Central Insitute Huskies overcame a two-goal deficit at the half with three second half goals, two by Kate McAlpine.

Jessy Thompson scored on a Nikki Cianchette assist. Kate Saucier assisted on the game-winner with 15 minutes left to play. Jen Cummings saved six of 14 shots for the 2-6-1 Huskies.

Becky Spencer scored two goals and Missy Perron assisted on one for 3-6 Oak Hill of Sabattus. Cassie Linton saved 14 of 20 shots.

Mount View 5, Lincoln Acad. 0

At Thorndike, Jenny Neves scored Mount View’s final three goals of the afternoon helping the Mustangs secure a win over Lincoln Academy of Newcastle.

Neves added an assist for the 8-2 Mustangs. Nina Graham scored a goal and added and assist. Rachel Cochrane scored a goal while Sarah Cole and Phoebe Garfinkel added assists. Jessica Trundy stopped all six shots she faced.

For 1-8 Lincoln Academy, Mariah Rosendo made 12 saves on 26 shots.

Cam.-Rock. 2, Maranacook 1

At Camden, Jacalyn Williams scored on a breakaway just two minutes into the second half providing Camden-Rockport with a win over Maranacook of Readfield.

Shannan Hall converted a corner kick into a goal 1:45 into the first half for the 8-1 Windjammers. Toni-Lynn Robbins stopped two of 11 shots.

Olivia Lucca scored on a pass from Sara Masse for 5-3 Maranacook. Kristen Sinclair made seven saves on 20 shots.

Field hockey

2nd only Foxcroft Academy 5, John Bapst 1

At Bangor Saturday, Shauna Gentry notched three goals to lift Foxcroft Academy.

Becky Warren had a goal and an assist and Holli Nichols scored for the Ponies. Beth Lewis stopped five of 10 shots for 9-0 Foxcroft.

Logan Rich scored with 12 seconds left off a Catherine DelVecchio assist, while Kitty Sullivan made 18 saves on 23 shots for 2-5 John Bapst.

2nd only Piscataquis 8, Brewer 0

At Guilford Saturday, Shandi Drew and Veronica Garett-Young each scored twice to lift the 4-3-1 Pirates of Guilford.

Cassady Regan had a goal and two assists, and Miranda Durant, Mandy Gray, and Kasey Weymouth all scored for Piscataquis Community. Kalli Pulkkinen and Sue Jordan earned the win without seeing a shot.

Jessica Rowles and Emily Goodness combined for 25 saves on 33 shots for 1-6 Brewer.

2nd only Old Town 2, Nokomis 0

At Old Town Saturday, Kristin Osborne made seven saves on eight shots to post the shutout and lift the Indians past Nokomis.

Kasey Spencer started the scoring for 2-6 Old Town with a goal at 15:04 of the first half. Kendall Tracewski added a goal in the second half on an assist from Johanna Fuller to close the scoring.

Veronica Gilbert made seven saves on nine shots for the 5-3 Warriors of Newport.

Belfast 8, Lincoln Academy 0

At Belfast, Sara McIntire led a group of seven scorers with two goals to lead Belfast to the win over Lincoln Academy of Newcastle.

Anne Crosby and Liz Kelley each scored a goal and added an assist for the 6-2 Lions. Carrie Caputo, Amanda Brown, Britt McClure and Katie Bonin had one goal apiece. Kristina Lane stopped both shots she faced.

For 2-6 Lincoln Academy, Rachel McCabe made 14 saves on 22 shots.

Central 6, Brewer 0

At Brewer, Megan Stinson notched three goals as Central of East Corinth cruised to the win.

Jessie Seymour, Kim Black and Deb Young also notched goals and Black added an assist. Jen Greatorex stopped 10 of 11 shots for 3-1-4 Central.

Jessica Rowles had 22 saves on 28 shots for 1-7 Brewer.

Hampden 3, Hermon 1

At Hampden, Rebecca Dickinson scored three goals to lift 5-3 Hampden Monday.

Dickinson had assists from Christina Congleton, Julie Davis and Heather Hessert, while Ashlea Larson stopped 16 of 21 shots for the Broncos.

Monica Rowe converted a Noel O’Clair assist to score Hermon’s lone goal while Katie Hutchinson stopped five of eight shots for the 4-4 Hawks.

Mattanawcook Acad. 8, Bangor 0

At Lincoln, Jennifer Comeau tallied two goals and one assist to lift Mattanawcook Academy to victory.

Erin Scott scored a pair of goals for the 5-3-1 Lynx. Candace Sabol netted a goal and two assists. Brooke Turner, Miranda Robinson and Kim Burliegh scored one goal each. Loyann Worster, Danielle Kyes and Christine Gendreau each had one assist. Tracie Pickering made four saves on seven shots.

For the 0-8 Rams, Megan White stopped seven of 21 shots.
