Bannister’s goal helps GSA gain 10th victory

BLUE HILL – Troy Bannister’s goal with six minutes left in the game gave the undefeated George Stevens Academy Eagles a 2-1 schoolboy soccer victory over the Brewer Witches Wednesday.

Bannister’s score came unassisted. Zach Davies scored the first unassisted goal for 10-0 GSA. Andrew O’Neil had six saves on nine shots.

Jamie Lambert scored off an Adam Knowles pass for 1-7-1 Brewer. Dave Johnson made nine saves on 17 shots.

JV: GSA 1, Brewer 0

Searsport 1, Dexter 0

At Dexter, Tucker Mercier scored unassisted at 31:09 in the first to give undefeated Searsport the win.

Nate Hall had 13 saves on 26 shots for 9-0 Searsport.

Ryan Robichaud stopped seven of 10 shots for 3-7 Dexter.

Penquis 7, DI-Stonington 4

At Milo, Eric Ballash scored three goals and assisted on another to lead the Patriots over the Mariners.

Jeremy Allen had two goals and two assists for Penquis, as Ben Knapp also fired in two scores. Terry Joyce, Bud Webb and Travis Ellis all had assists. Mike Grindle, Knapp and Paul Kusnier combined for seven saves on 13 shots.

Andy Eaton led DI-S with two goals. Josh Bolton and Nick Moler also scored, as Adam Huskelo and Larkin Bulger notched assists. Eric Ray had 16 saves on 32 shots.

MCI 2, Lincoln Acad. 2 (2OT)

At Pittsfield, Josh Lambert scored two second-half goals for the Huskies, but the game remained tied through two overtimes.

Lambert’s goals were assisted by Mike Thompson and Khano Smith. Shaun Souza had three saves on six shots for 8-1-1 MCI.

Jay Howell tied the game with 28:14 remaining for 7-2-1 Lincoln Academy of Newcastle.Kurt Monaco opened the scoring in the first half. Joey Brooks made 11 saves on 20 shots.

Ellsworth 4, Sumner 0

At Ellsworth, Graham Macbeth tallied first- and second-half goals en route to an Eagles’ shutout.

Macbeth’s second goal came off a Courtney Bunker assist. Cooper Friend and Isaiah Macbeth also had goals for 7-3 Ellsworth. Steven Parquette had an assist. Joseph Richards made six saves on nine shots.

Ben Huber and Jimmy Malloy combined for 14 saves on 29 shots for 3-7 Sumner.

Schenck 1, Katahdin 0

At East Millinocket, Matt Bouchard took a feed from Shawn Rosebush on the right wing and one-timed it in from 18 yards out for the Wolverines’ game-winner.

Bouchard’s score came less than three minutes into the second period. Aaron Turcotte was perfect in goal, stopping all seven shots for 5-4-1 Schenck.

Chris Jilek made seven of eight saves for 6-6 Katahdin of Sherman Station.

Piscataquis 1, Central 0

At East Corinth, Matt Bell notched the only goal unassisted in the second half to lift Piscataquis of Guilford.

Buddy Leavitt stopped 10 of 17 shots for the 3-4-2 Pirates.

James Nickerson made three saves on six shots for 7-3 Central.

Foxcroft 2, Orono 0

At Foxcroft, Justin Clawson had goals in the first and second half, with Mike Grant earning the shutout win for the Ponies.

Clawson scored on a Jon Niland pass in the first and from Aaron Soumi in the second. Grant had 12 saves on 19 shots for 5-3-2 Foxcroft.

Mark Mehuren faced 35 shots and stopped 12 for 4-4-1 Orono.

Hampden 4, Caribou 1

At Hampden, Justin Groshon scored three goals in a 12-minute second half span, helping the Broncos down the Vikings.

Groshon’s goals came on assists from Tom Janicki, Scott Tardif and Shawn Tardif. Janicki also had a first-half unassisted goal. Noah Peet and Josh Quint combined for a save on four shots for 6-2-1 Hampden.

Jens Garston notched 1-8-1 Caribou’s only goal in the second half. Mike Michaud made three saves on 20 shots.

Lee 4, Penobscot Valley 0

At Howland, Derek Dicker scored two goals to lead the Lee Academy Pandas to the win.

Matt Corbin and Chris Carr each scored a goal for the Pandas. Travis Jacobs made six saves on 16 shots.

Morgan Doyon and Ted Kajkowski combined to save 11 of 23 shots for the Howlers.

Nokomis 3, Old Town 1

At Old Town, Dave Richards scored a goal and added an assist to lift Nokomis.

Scottie Drapes opened the scoring and Gavin Speaker added an unassisted goal. Tyler Peters stopped four of 11 shots for 4-6 Nokomis of Newport.

David May scored off a Ryan Bernard assist and Tim Dolley stopped 10 of 14 shots for 0-10 Old Town.

Girls soccer

MCI 3, Lincoln Academy 1

At Newcastle, Jessy Thompson scored one goal and assisted on the other two to power the Maine Central Institute Huskies.

Kate McAlpine and Kate Saucier scored the other goals for the 3-6-1 Huskies of Pittsfield. Goalie Jen Cummings made six saves on nine shots.

Jamie Benner scored for 1-9 Lincoln Academy while goalie Mariah Rosendo made 15 saves on 20 shots.

Mount View 4, Erskine 1

At Thorndike, Jennie Neves scored two second-half goals and notched an assist while the Mustangs upped their record to 9-2.

Nina Graham had a goal and assist for Mount View, with Sarah Cole also found the net. Jessica Trundy made four saves on six shots.

Liz Nichols scored an unassisted goal for 5-5 Erskine. Alycia Pushard had eight saves on 16 shots.

Caribou 0, Hampden 0 (2OT)

At Hampden, the Vikings and Broncos battled to a scoreless, double overtime tie.

Sarah Fraunhofer made three saves on four shots for 2-6-2 Caribou.

Ashley Monahan had 15 saves on 43 shots for 6-1-2 Hampden.

Monmouth 3, Valley 1

At Monmouth, Sarah Baran netted two goals and Faith Flannery scored a goal and assist to become the Mustangs’ all-time leader in goals and assists. Flannery now has 34 goals and 20 assists, passing marks set by Angela Rioux, who graduated last year.

Jen Berube and Liz Thibodeau also had assists for 8-1 Monmouth. Lisa Hasch made eight saves on 10 shots.

Moriah Harrill had 4-5 Valley’s goal off a Tiffany Messer pass in the second half. Sophie Belanger made 17 saves on 23 shots.

Field hockey

Foxcroft 1, Mattanawcook 0

At Lincoln, Davan Clawson scored off a Shawna Gentry assist to power the undefeated Ponies.

Beth Lewis stopped three of five shots for 10-0 Foxcroft.

Tracie Pickering made five saves on seven shots for 5-4-1 Mattanawcook.

JV: Foxcroft 1, Mattanawcook 1

Hermon 0, Stearns 0 (2OT)

At Millinocket, Kacie Hutchinson stopped two of four shots to keep the Hawks above .500.

Hermon is now 4-3-1.

Pam Pelletier stopped 18 of 31 shots for 0-6-3 Stearns of Millinocket.

Hampden Academy 4, Bangor 1

At Hampden, Christina Congleton and Kelly Wellman each tallied a goal and assist as the Broncos improved to 6-3.

Sharon Ireland and Maggie Kapler also scored goals for Hampden. Ashlea Larson had eight saves on 12 shots.

Emily Nabozny scored off a Janel Bonzy feed in the second half for winless Bangor. Natalie Beiser had 15 saves on 21 shots for the 0-9 Rams.

JV: Hampden 2, Bangor 2

Old Town 2, John Bapst 0

At Old Town, Shaunessy Saucier notched a goal and assist five minutes apart in the second half to lead the Indians.

Mary Randall assisted on Saucier’s first goal, while Kendall Tracewski recieved a pass from Saucier a few minutes later. Kristin Osborne made 16 saves on 20 shots for 3-6 Old Town.

Stephanie Philbrick had 12 saves on 19 shots for 2-6 John Bapst.
