Wardman sparks MDI victory> Parenteau rushes for 182 yards, 4 TDs as Belfast beats Orono

MOUNT DESERT – Joe Wardman rushed 15 times for 134 yards and three touchdowns to power the Mount Desert Island Trojans to a 40-23 schoolboy football win over the Maranacook Black Bears Fridays night.

Tight end Jamie Cunningham caught three passes for 74 yards and two touchdowns and led the Trojans with 11 tackles. Quarterback Lee Stillwell completed five of 14 passes for 102 yards and two scores. Outside linebacker Wes Hamor and safety Aaron Mace each made an interception.

Josh Twitchell carried the ball five times for 86 yards and two touchdowns to pace the Maranacook offense. Linebacker Richard Kimmell made 19 tackles to lead the defense.

At Belfast, Tim Parenteau rushed for 182 yards and four touchdowns as the Lions scored 21 points alone in the fourth quarter.

Parenteau had touchdowns in the first and third quarters and two in the second that included a game-high 59-yard run. Rob Skillings had 61 yards on the ground and touchdowns off a rush and 53-yard punt return. Matt Darres caught two passes for 50 yards and a score.

Belfast’s Mike Jacovino ran one in from 29 yards and Conan Harrison returned a fumble 65 yards for a score, both in the fourth.

Matt Hendrick ran the ball six times for 40 yards to lead Orono.

At Old Town, running back Chris McCabe rushed seven times for 125 yards and two touchdowns and quarterback Patrick Bard completed eight of 10 passes for 177 yards and two scores as Winslow rolled.

Winslow defensive end Sean Bridges paced the defense with three sacks and linebacker Ian Mette recorded eight tackles and returned an interception 55 yards for a touchdown as time expired in the game.

Fullback Chad Holmes carried 16 times for 73 yards for Old Town. Linebackers Ryan Nadeau and Seth Holmes made eight and seven tackles, respectively.

At South Paris, Chad Hart ran for two touchdowns, including a 58-yard burst in the third quarter, giving the Vikings their first loss of the season.

Hart had a 20-yard score in the first for Waterville. Dean Carptenter and Chris DeGuzman also had rushing scores.

Mike Mowatt scored on a one-yard rush in the fourth quarter for Oxford Hills.

At Oakland, Tony Harmon ran for 258 yards and four touchdowns as the Eagles rolled.

Harmon had a score in every quarter for Messalonskee. Ryan Blethen ran for 105 yards on 18 carries and had two conversion runs.

Ben Preston scored two touchdowns on a one-yard run in the second and a five-yard reception from Adam White in the third.

At Augusta, James Cochara ran for a touchdown and 75 yards to lead the Rams in a low-scoring contest.

B.L. Lippert led Cony in rushing with 150 yards and a touchdown in the second quarter.

At Pittsfield, senior tailback Nate Cota rushed for 200 yards on 24 carries and senior fullback Matt York ran for a pair of touchdowns as Maine Central Institute improved to 4-1. Rockland fell to 3-2.

York’s 15-yard TD run opened the scoring and he gave the Huskies the lead for good with a three-run run in the third quarter.

Ricky Smith’s 15-yard pass to Steve Allen produced an insurance TD in the fourth quarter.

Alan Mason’s eight-yard run accounted for MCI’s other TD, giving the Huskies a 14-6 lead in the second quarter.

A six-yard TD pass from Blair Drinkwater to Colby Grindle and Donald Williams’ two-point conversion rush tied it up later in the second period.

Williams had scored on a six-yard run in the first quarter.

At Gardiner, Patrick Munzing scrambled for 127 yards and four touchdowns as the Tigers scored 12 first-quarter points.

Munzing had an 81-yard kickoff return in the first quarter before rushing for scores in the first, third and fourth quarters.

Davyd Colinson completed 14 of 22 passes for 145 yards, scored a rushing touchdown but threw three interceptions for Mt. Blue. James Black caught a six-yard pass from Colinson in the second quarter.
