AUGUSTA – Veteran reporter Sharon Kiley Mack of the Bangor Daily News was presented with an award for her reporting on agricultural issues by Maine Agriculture Commissioner Robert Spear during this week’s Agricultural Trades Show at the Augusta Civic Center.
“In recent years there has been one person who, through her articles, has focused on farming and has done an outstanding job of reporting agricultural activities throughout this state,” said Spear in presenting the plaque that recognized the reporter for her “objective, diligent reporting” on agriculture. “It is my privilege to present this award to Sharon Mack of the Bangor Daily News.”
Mack has worked as a reporter for the NEWS for 16 years, working out of the bureau in Pittsfield.
A graduate of the University of Hartford with a degree in early childhood education, she has covered agricultural issues for three years.
“Farming is not just a way of life in Maine, each farm is a business, a key player in the overall health and well-being of this state. Telling the stories of Maine farmers and the effort to promote sustainable agriculture is extremely rewarding to me,” said Mack, a Pittsfield resident.
