FORT FAIRFIELD — Congress has approved $1 million in funding for construction of a flood protection levee for Fort Fairfield, U.S. Rep. John Baldacci announced Thursday.
The project’s estimated cost is $5.5 million. Baldacci said he would continue to work with other agencies for further funding.
“While we had hoped for additional funding, $1 million is certainly a good start,” Baldacci said. “The construction of the levee is essential to the future of Fort Fairfield, and we’ll continue to work with the Army Corps of Engineers and others to get this project off the drawing board.”
