Former day care owner faces sexual allegations

DRESDEN – A director of a now-closed Dresden day care center faces accusations that he sexually assaulted a 5-year-old girl.

Steven Guay, 52, is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in Wiscasset District Court on a charge of gross sexual assault.

He is pleading innocent to the accusations.

According to court records, Guay and his wife, Geraldine, were directors of Little People Day Care. The assaults allegedly took place when Steven Guay was alone with the girl in the trailer that houses the day care center, which is next to the couple’s home.

The day care center gave up its license Dec. 20, according to Conrad Thibeault, director of the licensing division at the state Department of Human Services.

Guay was arrested Dec. 14. He was released the next day after posting bail of $2,500 in cash and $25,000 in real estate. The conditions of his release include no contact with the girl or any child under 16.

His wife has not been charged with any crime.
