MOUNT DESERT – Sara Lowe scored six of her 10 points to spark a 9-0 run to open the third quarter that helped Nokomis build a 10-point lead en route to a 41-34 schoolgirl basketball victory over the Mount Desert Island Trojans Thursday night.
The victory by the defending state Class A champs avenged their recent loss to MDI at Newport. MDI, the defending state Class B champ, suffered its first loss.
Michelle Murray scored a game-high 16 points for Nokomis of Newport, which trailed 13-2 early but battled its way back. Danielle Clark tossed in 13 points for the winners, who took advantage of good full-court pressure.
Bracey Barker led Mount Desert Island with nine points and Shelley Gott added seven.

Kyle Pulkkinen led the way for the defending EM champs with 16 points. Josh Watson chipped in with 12. Keith Dawson and Dustin Carson tossed in 11 each, and Ben Smith hauled down eight rebounds.
