It’s already been a groundbreaking season and career for Winthrop High School quarterback Lee St. Hilaire, who became Maine’s all-time leading passer and the 27th-ranked schoolboy QB nationally.
However, there was one last bit of business to take care of for the senior, who also stars for the Ramblers on the hockey rink. That would be the James J. Fitzpatrick Trophy, which no player from a Class C school had ever won …. Before Sunday night.
Hilaire made some more history Sunday in Portland as he was awarded the 31st Fiztpatrick Trophy at the annual award banquet. He is only the third Class C player to become a finalist since the award’s scope was expanded to Class B and C teams six years ago.
St. Hilaire completed 140 of 205 passes for 2,382 yards and 21 touchdowns with just three interceptions last year. He is in the national record books with a lifetime 63 percent completion percentage and 8,272 yards in four years.
Maine’s Gatorade Player of the Year beat out Class A players and fellow finalists Cole Parlin from Mt. Blue of Farmington and Thornton Academy of Saco’s Stefan Scarks for the award.
