MOUNT DESERT – Kara Horton drained a pair of free throws with less than a minute remaining Saturday night to lift Mount Desert Island to a 47-45 schoolgirl basketball victory over Bangor.
The Class B Trojans led 37-28 at the end of three, but Bangor stormed back behind Erinne Magee’s three 3-pointers to take a one point lead with 1:30 to go.
Shelley Gott led the Trojans with 16 points and 13 rebounds and Horton tallied 11 points. Bracey Barker, a 6-foot-1 guard, added a school-record eight blocked shots.
Magee finished with 15 points and Katherine Miller tossed in 12 for the Class A Rams.

At Bethel, Islesboro topped Gould 62-58 on Friday night but Gould regrouped to defeat the Huskies 69-66 in overtime Saturday.
In Saturday’s game, Gould nailed three of four free throws in overtime to seal the win.
Center Idin Dalpour paced the Huskies with 27 points and Emmett Donovan and Dan Tutor tallied 14 apiece.
For Islesboro, Jon Bolduc poured in 30 points and made 10 steals. Bolduc’s buzzer-beating 18-footer from the left side sent the game into overtime. Rory Diffin notched 21 points and 20 rebounds and David Pike added 11 points.
In Friday’s game, Ben Roberts made four of four foul shots in the fourth quarter to help Islesboro hold off Gould.
Bolduc paced the offense with 14 points while Roberts logged 12 points and 10 steals. Diffin posted 11 points and 18 rebounds.
Dalpour pumped in 33 points and Kane Olson scored 15 for Gould.
