ORLAND – Free tax assistance is available on Wednesdays at the H.O.M.E. Learning Center on Schoolhouse Road near Route 1.
An AARP volunteer tax preparer who has completed an IRS training and certification program will be available to assist low-income people and the elderly. For an appointment, call 469-7961 before 4 p.m. weekdays.
Clients should bring all tax documents received from employers, banks, colleges and other sources, as well as records for possible deductions (taxes paid, medical costs, charitable donations), and a copy of their 2000 tax return. Also, bring Social Security cards for all children, dependents and spouse. Clients also need to know the amount of the advance payment received from the Internal Revenue Service.
