BANGOR – The Greater Bangor Habitat for Humanity will be the beneficiary of proceeds from the sixth annual Valentine’s Dance sponsored by the Bangor Board of Realtors.
The event, featuring live band music by Brian Catell & Friends, will offer standards, pop, Latin, swing, rock and even music from the ’40s. It will be held from 8 p.m. to midnight Feb. 9 at the Bangor Civic Center.
Last year, the board raised nearly $10,000 for the Bangor Area Chapter of Habitat for Humanity. The total included proceeds from the dance and matching grants from the Maine Association of Realtors Affordable Housing Fund and Wells Fargo Mortgage.
Including the matching grants, the board has donated more than $50,000 in recent years to the chapter.
Habitat for Humanity is an international, nonprofit organization that helps people build homes who otherwise would not be able to afford them.
Labor from many volunteers helps keep down the construction costs, and each Habitat family invests hundreds of hours of “sweat equity” in the project as well.
A new Habitat for Humanity home is under construction on Elm Street in Brewer.
Tickets for the dance are $15 a person or $150 for a table of 10. They are available from local members of the Bangor Board of Realtors, at the Grasshopper Shop in downtown Bangor and at Patrick’s Hallmark on Broadway.
Information on tickets is available by calling 990-4444. For information on Habitat for Humanity, call 942-8977.
