After watching the “Today” show and seeing the Rev. Jerry Falwell, I was sickened at his latest quest. Tinky Winky of the Teletubbies is supposedly gay? Just because he carries a purse (which is actually a magic bag — watch the show, Rev. Falwell), is purple (gay pride color), and has a triangular-shaped antenna (another gay pride reference?).
My 6-year-old daughter’s favorite color is purple — does this make her a lesbian? Falwell stated that Christians think homosexuality is wrong. I am a Christian and I don’t feel that way. Doesn’t the Bible say, “Love thy neighbor?” What’s next — Barney? Oh no, he’s purple. Lorianne Tweedie Parkman
The Feb. 12 editorial cartoon shows the Rev. Falwell in line with the Teletubbies and listed as “dumb-dumb” in the lineup. This is bigotry at its best. The apparently gay Tinky Winky is highly acceptable along with the rest of the Teletubbies, but Christians are something to be bashed. I note this cartoon was not imported from The Chicago Tribune or elsewhere, but is the BDN’s own Danby. Instead of promoting bigotry, let’s clean up the act. Alfred L. Page Calais
