PORTLAND – U.S. Reps. John Baldacci and Tom Allen proudly announced that artwork from two Maine students will be on display for one year in the United States Capitol building. The winning selections were unveiled during a ceremony at Maine College of Art in Portland on Saturday. They represent each of the state’s two congressional districts and will be part of a national collection of student artwork – along with selections from other participating congressional districts.

Baldacci and Allen complimented the creativity and effort of all participants and praised the 2002 winner from Maine’s First Congressional District, Ryan Douglas, a senior at Windham High School. Ryan’s mixed media work is entitled “Fall Harvest.” It will be on display with a drawing titled “Heart,” which is the winning selection in the 2nd Congressional District. Baldacci and Allen praised its creator, Eric Gartmayer, a senior at Washington Academy in East Machias.

“This unique art competition offers Maine high school students an opportunity to display their creative talents and to represent our state in an important way,” Baldacci and Allen said in a joint statement.
