Dexter cruises to 16th victory

DEXTER – The Dexter Tigers jumped out to a 24-5 first-quarter lead en route to a 57-27 schoolgirl basketball victory over the Piscataquis Community Pirates Monday night.

Ashley Ames led Dexter with 26 points, 14 rebounds and six blocked shots.

Jenny Getchell topped Piscataquis of Guilford with 11 points.

Ellsworth avenged a 37-35 loss in Orono on Dec. 22.

Merchant had seven rebounds and three assists to go with her game-high 13 points. May Chan and Ashley Oleson combined for 16 points.
