Harvey scores 41, Bucks top Nokomis

BUCKSPORT – Jason Harvey poured in 41 points – offsetting a 40-point performance by Nokomis star Ryan McLellan – as Bucksport earned an 89-75 schoolboy basketball victory and a season sweep of the Class A powers from Newport Wednesday night.

Corey Guilford contributed 17 points for the Bucks while Chris Dow added 11 points and 11 rebounds. Mike Ogden grabbed eight rebounds and Harvey handed out five assists.

Luke Hayden tallied 14 points for the Warriors. McLellan scored 16 of his 40 in the fourth quarter.

At Thomaston, Travis Magnusson buried seven three-pointers, including one with 2:22 left in the game to give him his 2,000th career point, a feat accomplished by only four other high school boys in Maine. He poured in 38 total points, and the Buccaneers nipped Madison.

Sam Schmonsees added 12 points for the winners.

Adam Rich paced the Bulldogs with 20 points. John Cannon notched 13 points. Bobby Fortin and Justin Francoze had 11 each.

Adam Smith scored 14 and Jake King had 10 points and eight rebounds for Ellsworth, which made two free throws with 17 seconds to play to cut the lead to two, then missed a potential game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer after forcing a turnover.
