Caswell home run lifts Bucksport

ELLSWORTH – Annette Caswell hit a solo home run in the third inning and had a stellar defensive afternoon as the Bucksport softball team earned a 3-2 victory over Ellsworth Wednesday, ended the Eagles’ 10-game win streak.

Caswell made a diving catch in center field with the bases loaded in the third inning and cut down a baserunner with a throw to the plate in the fourth. Janna Richards added an RBI triple for the Bucks.

Jodi Merchant paced Ellsworth with a two-run triple in the fifth and Lyndsy Patten singled, scored a run and struck out six.

Sumner 3, Narraguagus 2

At East Sullivan, Meghan Philio scored on an RBI groundout by Sarah Abbott in the second inning for what proved to be the Tigers’ game-winning run.

Sam Scott singled and scored a run for Sumner. Jill Osier struck out 11 and walked five in the two-hitter.

Lindsay Portrie doubled in the second inning for the Knights of Harrington and Annie Woodsum added a single. Laura Morse fanned five and walked one.

At Thorndike, Liz Kelley tripled and singled to pace the Lions.

Jess Aldus tripled and hit a single for Belfast. Amber Billings and Brianna Beecher each singled twice.

Sarah Cole led the Mustangs with three singles and Ellen Ward added two singles.

At Deer Isle, Crystal Strout hit a first-inning grand slam and singled as Central of Corinth earned the victory.

Trina Libby singled three times and dove in one run for the Red Devils. Steph Partridge added two singles and two RBIs.

Angela Douglass homered, doubled and singled to drive in two runs for Deer Isle-Stonington. Mindy Douvarjo tripled, singled and had an RBI. Kim Alley singled twice and drove in one run.

At Husson College in Bangor, Kristen Legere had three singles and five RBIs to fuel John Bapst’s win.

Stacy Rudnicki also had three singles and Amanda Johnson singled, doubled and had two RBIs for the Crusaders of Bangor.

Christine Buzzell doubled and had an RBI and Trixie Pullen singled for the Tigers.

At Millinocket, Heather Potvin smacked a three-run homer in the second inning and added a two-run double to lift the Minutemen.

Becca Saucier and Meredith Oliver each finished with two singles and two RBIs for Stearns. Shannon Sirois struck out eight and walked one.

Orono’s Jessica Libby launched a two-run homer in the first inning and Erica Breton singled and scored a run.

At East Sullivan, Matt Welch pitched a two-hitter, striking out five in five innings as the Tigers of East Sullivan rolled.

Greg Ingalls smacked a two-run homer, Ben Huber had three singles and Royce Blackwood collected two singles and scored three runs for Sumner.

Joe Haskell had an RBI single for Narraguagus of Harrington and Zac Gage-Croll singled.

At Thorndike, Josh Pooler scattered three hits and struck out eight in the Lions’ victory.

Steve Johnson doubled and singled for two RBIs. Howie Bennett hit a double and a single and knocked in a run and Bob Mitchell also recorded a double and a single for Belfast.

Ryan Harden singled in the second inning to knock in the Mustangs’ two runs. Tom Hatch doubled and scored a run and Matt Raven added a single.

At South China, Joah Peck and Nate Neville each singled, doubled and drove in three runs for Camden-Rockport.

Mike MacDonald held Erskine to two hits over six innings while striking out 13 to pick up the win. Matt Lippman added two singles, a double and two RBIs for the Windjammers. Jon Moro hit three singles and had two RBIs and Travis Wadsworth singled three times.

David Tyrol doubled for Erskine Academy.

At Deer Isle, Adam Salvia singled and doubled to knock in two runs as the Red Devils got past the Mariners.

Matt Strout singled twice and recorded two RBIs for Central of Corinth. Ken Runnells hit an RBI double and added a single and Billy Kane hit two singles.

Jason Weed led Deer Isle-Stonington with a double, a single and three RBIs. Eric Roy and Doug Bates each singled and added an RBI double.

At Millinocket, Aaron Civiello drove in four runs with three doubles and a single to lead Stearns past Orono.

Matt Montgomery knocked in three runs with two base hits for the winners; Darrin Daniels doubled and singled and drove in a run and Jamie Cote singled twice and knocked in a run.

Chris Crockett had three base hits and two RBIs for Orono while Josh Kendall and David Means each doubled and singled. Means had an RBI.

At Lawrence, Corey Pelletier went 4-for-4 with a double, three singles and scored two runs and drove in two to lead the Bulldogs of Fairfield.

Travis Hotham added a single, double and three RBIs to the winning effort. Cole Teague singled three times and knocked in two runs.

Matt Tardif hit an RBI single for Messalonskee of Oakland and Keith Purnell singled.
