Six members of the Fiddler’s Green Farm cycling team raised $2,500 for the American Lung Association of Maine in the June 18-20 Trek Across Maine, a 200-mile bicycle trip from Sunday River Resort in Bethel to the Samoset Inn in Rockport.

Each person who undertook the ride had to raise a minimum of $400. The 1,600 riders who made the trip raised $800,000 for the association.

This was the fifth year Fiddler’s Green has entered a team in the Trek Across Maine. Team members were Laine Alexander, Chris Harrington, Tom Hoerth, Sam Mitchell, Judy Ottman and Susan Talbot. —-

Eleven people graduated from the Penobscot Bay Marine Volunteer program and have begun stewardship activities in the region’s communities.

The participants completed a five-week 80-hour training program on May 27 that included a range of marine-related courses, which were taught by some of the state’s leading experts in marine biology, geology and history. This is the fifth group of people to complete the program.

The graduates of the 1999 program are: Nancy Appel Boothby of Waldoboro, Rick Cowles of Belfast, Brian Dalton of Rockport, Frances Grindell of Camden, Gregory D. Kibitz of Rockland, Darcy J. Lenzgrinden of Tenants Harbor, James H. Mitchell of Islesboro, Gretchen P. Ogden of Camden, John F. Shea of Tenants Harbor, Judith E. Simpson of Belfast and Bob Wheeler of Bremen.
