ELLSWORTH – Nate Hall tossed a five-hitter, fanning eight, as Waldo shut down Trenton 8-2 and kept its hopes for a spot in the Zone 1 tournament alive.

Waldo’s win, coupled with Brewer’s victory over Bangor, created a three-way tie for third place in the Zone 1 standings. The top four teams make the tournament.

According to Zone commissioner Dennis Damon, the first option for breaking the tie is comparing the teams’ head-to-head won/loss records. The second option is comparing total runs in head-to-head competition, and the third option is a coin toss.

Brewer, Bangor, and Waldo all have records of 3-3 against one another. In the total runs race, Brewer has 45, Bangor 36, and Waldo 30.

At press time, there were tentative plans to award Brewer third place and stage a neutral site playoff between Bangor and Waldo. Damon said the final decision will be made early this morning and the game will be played today.

The Wildcats pounded out 9 hits before the game was called in the seventh due to darkness. Nate Neville led the way with two singles and two RBIs. Hall and Joseph Sortwell contributed a triple each while Mike McDonald and Travis Wadsworth both had run-scoring singles.

For the Acadians, Josh Sadlier and Ben Huber doubled.
