ORONO — Oxford County 4-H Volunteer Gladys Conant will be recognized for her 62 years of volunteer service to Maine 4-H youth at the National 4-H Center, Chevy Chase, Md., this year.
The Pine Tree State 4-H Foundation of Orono has confirmed that a brick engraved with the words “To Honor Gladys Conant, Maine 4-H” will be placed in her honor at the National 4-H Center. Funding for the brick was raised and donated to the National 4-H Center by the Pine Tree State 4-H Foundation.
In May, Conant was presented with a Distinguished Service Award by Foundation President Scott Johnson at the foundation’s annual meeting.
Conant currently serves as organizational leader of three 4-H clubs, one of which is the 70 member Canton Busy Workers Club from Canton. Her club members present more than 500 exhibits each year and are recognized as valuable contributors to a healthy community in the Canton area.
Conant is active in the Oxford County Leader’s Association, serves as chairwoman of the Eastern States Center program and is active in the Oxford County Style Review Program. Conant also is active in many other areas of community service, including volunteer work at her church, serving on the district school board and remaining an active part of the Canton Board. —-
