Imagine owing money to a business for services it provided but the company wouldn’t send you a bill, even though it was demanding payment. That’s exactly what the IRS is doing.
I went to the local (federal) post office and asked for a federal tax form and was told they didn’t offer them and to try the (municipal) library. The library said it would be pleased to provide them to me, but the (federal) government wouldn’t send them any forms.
The library was good enough to photocopy some of the tax instructions and a blank 1040EZ, but as soon as I sat down to fill out the form, I realized I only had half enough instructions. Maybe I’m one of those idiots who can’t fill out the simplest forms but when the easiest income tax form requires me to compute the “rate reductions credit” and “earned income credit,” and designate a “third-party designee,” I need help.
If they want my tax money so bad, why don’t they send me the forms to pay it with?
