AUGUSTA – The Holocaust Human Rights Center of Maine is organizing the “Fourth Mission to Poland,” a 14-day trip that departs on July 10.

The itinerary for the trip includes stops in Berlin, Germany, before traveling to Poland. While in Poland, the group will visit Krakow, with side trips to the Auschwitz/Birkenau death camp and Schindler’s factory, then on to Lublin, Majdanek, Treblinka and Warsaw. The group returns on July 23.

Cost is $2,600 per person and includes airfare from Boston to Germany and the return from Poland to Boston, double occupancy accommodations with breakfast, guides, admission fees and ground transportation.

The trip is intended for Maine educators and graduate and undergraduate college students who seek a greater understanding of the implementation and consequences of the Nazi-conceived “final solution” in Germany and Poland during World War II.

Maine teachers, guidance counselors and administrators are given priority in registering. Educators may receive continuing education units or three inservice graduate credits through the University of Southern Maine at additional cost.

Partial scholarships for educators are available through the Temple Israel Designated Fund (restricted to the northern area of Maine) and the Holocaust Human Rights Center of Maine Poland Scholarship Fund.
