Corbin goal leads Crusaders

VAN BUREN – Nicole Corbin scored the winning goal with less than two minutes left in the game to lead Van Buren to a 2-1 victory over Wisdom in schoolgirl soccer action Monday.

Susie Johnson scored two minutes into the second half for 1-0-1 Van Buren. Goalie Kasey Violette stopped six of the nine shots she faced.

Kelly Cyr scored Wisdom of St. Agatha’s only goal in the first half with an assist from Lisa Ouellette. For the 1-1 Pioneers, goalkeeper Nina Michaud recorded nine saves on 15 shots.

Cen. Aroostook 2, Fort Fairfield 1

At Mars Hill, Jocelyn Carvell scored with six minutes left in the game as the Panthers came from behind to defeat Fort Fairfield.

The Tigers struck first when Sabrina Butler scored 15 minutes into the first half with an assist from Ashlee Bubar. Jessica Barnes had six saves on 10 shots for 0-1 Fort Fairfield.

Gabrielle Smith tied the game for Central Aroostook with an unassisted goal one minute after Butler’s score. Chantal Gagnon saved nine of ten shots for the 1-0 Panthers.

Boys soccer

Madawaska 1, Limestone 0

At Madawaska, Marc Garcia scored an unassisted goal with 28:19 left in the second half as the Owls got by the Eagles.

B.J. Dufour made two saves on six shots for 1-1 Madawaska.

For 0-1 Limestone, Sean Ward had 13 saves on 32 shots.

Van Buren 6, Wisdom 0

At Van Buren, Eric Ayotte scored three times and Chris Lajoie added three assists to help the Crusaders roll.

Tyler Hughes added two more goals for 2-0 Van Buren, the second on a penalty kick. Mike Sirois also scored a goal and Zac Cote recorded two assists. Van Buren goalie Sean Violette recorded one save on one shot.

For Wisdom, now 0-2, Rick Sirois had 40 saves on 46 shots.

Fort Fairfield 3, Cen. Aroostook 2

At Fort Fairfield, Brandon Traknis, Mickey Browning and Paul Guiou all scored in the second half to lead the Tigers to the win.

Jim Blier and Ben Arato each added an assist. Goalkeeper Ryan Bugbee had 14 saves on 19 shots for 1-0 Fort Fairfield.

Jordan Codrey scored two second half goals for the 0-1 Panthers of Mars Hill, and Shane Bradstreet and Scott Mullen each recorded an assist. A.J. Wiggins stopped five of the nine shots he faced.
