Allagash woman is killed in collision of automobiles

FORT FAIRFIELD — A 71-year-old Allagash woman died Monday when the car she was riding in went out of control on ice and slush and struck another vehicle about 3:45 p.m., according to the Maine State Police in Houlton.

Winnie Walker, 62, of Fort Fairfield was driving east on Route 167 when her 1985 Dodge skidded on ice and slush, spun around and struck a 1984 Buick that was traveling west.

Walker’s sister, Minnie Walker, was thrown from the vehicle and died.

Walker’s daughter, Lori Tarbox, 25, of Fort Fairfield, was injured. Walker and her daughter were treated at The Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle after being extricated from their vehicle, and were expected to be transferred to a Bangor hospital Monday night.

The Buick was driven by Ann Jetson, 34, of Caribou, who had five passengers. They were her three children, Haley, 6, Derek, 8, and Arik, 2; Amy Barnes, 17, and Shawna Muncey, 15, both of Presque Isle. All six of the people in the Jetson vehicle were treated at TAMC and then released.

Both vehicles were totaled.

Investigating were Trooper Jim Graves, assisted by Detective Ronald Graves, Troopers John York, David McPherson and Dale Keegan, Sgt. Michael Heino, and the Fort Fairfield fire, ambulance and police departments.
