York carries Belfast to win

OLD TOWN – Chris York rushed for 136 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Belfast Lions to a 28-12 high school football victory over Old Town at Victory Field Friday night.

York, who had 12 carries, scored on runs of 57 and 43 yards. Gavin Cross added a TD, and Brandon Hurd scored on a 12-yard pass from Ben Morley. Drew Shula kicked two PATs for Belfast.

Chad Holmes paced Old Town with 168 yards on 31 carries and a touchdown. Keenan Goslin also scored for the Indians, and Seth Holmes tallied 11 tackles.

Foxcroft 59, John Bapst 6

At Dover-Foxcroft, Brian Bellemare and Ryan Taylor combined for 240 rushing yards as the Ponies rolled over the Crusaders of Bangor.

Taylor led Foxcroft Academy with 130 yards on 14 carries and two touchdowns, while Bellemare carried the ball 10 times for 110 yards and two touchdowns. Dana Grass scored two TDs and Josh Sands added another touchdown on a 27-yard run. Seth Kelley scored in the second half when the Ponies blocked a punt, he recovered the ensuing fumble and ran in for a TD.

Andy Drew led John Bapst with a touchdown on a two-yard run in the third quarter.

At South Paris, the Vikings battled back from the Bulldogs’ 16-0 lead to eke out the win.

After Oxford Hills’ Ryan Wilson threw to Mike Mowatt on a 25-yard scoring play, Oxford Hills’ offense got rolling while its defense shut down Lawrence.

Don Thibodeau had sparked Lawrence of Fairfield to a fast start with scoring runs of 72 and 40 yards that put the Bulldogs out in front in the first period.

At Lincoln, Miah Coffin scored three TDs on punt returns and led MA’s rushing attack as the Lynx broke out to a 41-0 halftime lead en route to the romp.

Coffin scored on punt returns of increasing yardage as he ran the ball back 35, 42, and 49 yards to keep Mattanawcook rolling. He gained 74 yards on four carries.

MA quarterback B.J. Birtz was 3-for-4 passing for 95 yards and two touchdowns. The Lynx had TDs from six other players as they racked up their 62 points in the first three periods. Wade Jordan and Nick Albert led the Lynx defense.

Hampden 7, Brewer 1

At Hampden, Sam Bosse scored two goals to help the Broncos cruise to the win.

Peter Hastings recorded a goal and two assists. Tom Janicki had a goal and an assist and Matzio Molinari, Pat Woodcock and Ross Franchi each added a goal. Hans Hassell, Tony Maietta and Rob Snow had assists for 4-2 Hampden Academy. Matt Goodman had four saves on six shots and Snow gave up a goal on the only shot he faced.

Will Prescott scored with one second left for the 0-5 Witches. Matt Burrill and Mike King combined for 24 saves on 31 shots.
